Female Athlete of the Week – Addison Sholly (Week of November 6th)

Last week, the Palmyra Cougars won two games to roll into this week’s final two games in the PIAA Field Hockey Championship Tournament. In the first game, a 7-1 win over West Chester East, Addison Sholly scored twice. Considered the “quarterback” of the team, she played a key role in Palmyra’s 2-0 win over Manheim Central in the quarterfinals. For her efforts, Sholly was chosen as the LebCo Female Athlete of the Week.

Those paying attention know that the story did not end in Saturday’s win over Manheim Central. In Tuesday’s semifinal win over Hershey, Sholly scored a late goal that put the game out of reach and secured Palmyra’s spot in tomorrow’s PIAA State Championship game against Villa Maria.

During the regular season, Sholly had 7 goals and 8 assists to help lead Palmyra to the #1 seed in District 3. Announced on Thursday, Sholly joined teammates Keely Bowers and Mallory Hudson as Keystone First Team selections.

When asked about Sholly’s role on the Cougar squad, Head Coach Kent Harshman said, “Addie has been our “quarterback” from her deep center-mid position this year. Her steadying confident presence has been a great influence for us, and is the main reason she is looked up to as a leader for our team.”

Next season, Sholly will be playing at Lehigh University, where she will continue to have an impact carrying all of the lessons she’s learned from being part of SCIJ.

Sholly isn’t worried about playing at the collegiate level quite yet, as there is still one more high school game left to play. On Saturday, Sholly will again hope to have a positive, meaningful impact on the game, with the goal being to leave Cumberland Valley celebrating a State Championship with her Cougar teammates.
