Nominees
Jaxton Barger (Palmyra / Sr.) – Track & Field: Barger ended his high school career exactly where every athlete hopes to be, on the medal stand at Shippensburg. The Palmyra senior cleared 14’3” in the Boys AAA Pole Vault to place 7th at the PIAA State Championship Meet, earning his first State medal after entering the weekend as a two-time defending District 3 Champion.
Oliver Funck (Annville-Cleona / Sr.) – Track & Field: Funck put together one of the best closing weekends of any Lebanon County distance runner, medaling twice at the PIAA State Championship Meet. The senior opened with a 6th-place finish and PR of 4:16.70 in Friday’s Boys AA 1600m, then came back Saturday to place 6th in the 3200m in 9:22.60, his fastest time of the season by more than 6 seconds.
Travis Furmanski (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Track & Field: Running through tough conditions in his final high school race, Furmanski once again proved he belonged among Pennsylvania’s elite. The Cedar Crest senior placed 3rd in the Boys AAA 3200m at the PIAA State Championship Meet, finishing in a career-best 8:55.74 and improving by 17 seconds from his State meet time a year ago.
Eliana Schneider (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Track & Field: Schneider delivered the biggest throw of the weekend for Lebanon County, launching the javelin 160’11” to win the Girls AAA State Championship. The Cedar Crest senior and University of Virginia commit hit the winning mark on her 5th attempt, setting a new Lancaster-Lebanon League record and moving up from 4th place at States a year ago to the top of the podium.
Makenzie Wamsher (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Track & Field: Wamsher gave Cedar Crest an early spark at the PIAA State Championship Meet, battling her way to an 8th-place medal in the Girls AAA 1600m. After dealing with injury concerns for much of the season, the senior closed hard with a 1:11.97 final lap and passed 2 runners late to secure a podium finish in 4:55.53.
Landen Weaber (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Track & Field: Weaber helped Cedar Crest’s sprint group finish its season on the State medal stand, leading off a Boys AAA 4x100m Relay team that included Isaiah Zimmerman, Nolan Lingle, and Cameron Tirado. The Falcons qualified 6th for the final in 42.29 on Friday, then returned Saturday to finish 6th in 42.65, adding a State medal to their Lancaster-Lebanon League title.
Dominic Wentling (Annville-Cleona / So.) – Track & Field: Wentling showed that his throwing career is already operating at a State-medal level, bringing home hardware in both of his events at Shippensburg. The Annville-Cleona sophomore placed 8th in the Boys AA Discus with a throw of 153’5”, then followed with a 4th-place finish in the Shot Put at 52’11.5”, giving the Dutchmen one of the top young throwers in Pennsylvania.
Past Winner Update
Kaddel Howard (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Track & Field: Howard added another historic chapter to her already legendary Cedar Crest career by winning her 4th straight Outdoor State Championship in the Girls AAA 400m. After posting the fastest prelim time on Friday in 54.37, the University of Florida commit battled through an injury flare-up and still won Saturday’s final in 54.56, once again proving why she has owned the event in Pennsylvania.
Maddy Waldron (Palmyra / Jr.) – Track & Field: Waldron came within the slimmest of margins of reaching the Girls AAA 100m final in her first State appearance in the event. The Palmyra junior ran 12.16 in Friday’s prelims, a time that stood as the 8th-fastest overall, but the advancement format left her 9th and just .01 away from qualifying for Saturday’s final.
