Lebanon 57, Northern Lebanon 29 (LL Quarterfinals)
On Saturday afternoon, Lebanon hosted Northern Lebanon in the Lancaster Lebanon League Quarterfinals. The Section 1 Champion Cedars entered the game riding an 18-game win streak. One of their harder-fought wins came against the Section 3 runner-up Vikings on December 28th. The Cedars have only shown improvement since they met in the Lebanon Holiday Tournament Championship. However, the Vikings have the ability to hang defensively with most teams, allowing for hot perimeter shooting to take over. This has resulted in an 18-4 record overall.
In the 1st quarter of this postseason matchup, Lebanon grabbed a 6-point lead. Though the Cedars had many chances, their ability to hit three-pointers was limited as Kailah Correa, Liliana Harrison, and Olive Brandt each settled for two field goals. However, in the 2nd quarter, those earlier missed shots began to fall. Freshman Tayana Camuy also came into the game and drilled two three-pointers as the Cedars outscored Northern Lebanon by a 20-3 margin in the quarter. Harrison was a force inside, racking up rebounds and blocks. Correa had 11 points to lead Lebanon, who had worked their way to a 34-11 lead at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, Lebanon continued to shine on both ends of the floor. With the game’s outcome decided, both teams began to give playing time to their non-starters. When they entered the 4th quarter, the Cedars held a 33-point advantage. In the closing minutes, the Vikings found their groove, something they can reflect upon ahead of the District 3 Playoffs.
Correa led the Cedars with 17 points, while Brandt chipped in 15. Harrison finished the game with 11 points. Hayley Sheroky scored 8 points to lead Northern Lebanon.
Lebanon (21-2) will play on Tuesday against Columbia in the LL League Semifinals. This is a rematch of the two teams that met in last year’s LL League Championship game.
Northern Lebanon (18-5) will await the official word on who they’ll match up against in the District 3 Playoffs.
