Cocalico 66, Northern Lebanon 47

After improving from one win last season to six wins this year, Northern Lebanon finished up their season on Friday night at home against Cocalico. In the 1st quarter, the Eagles relied on the three-ball to build an 8-point lead. In the 2nd quarter, the Vikings battled back, with senior Kade Erdman nailing two three-pointers of his own. At the break, Northern Lebanon trailed 28-22 following Cocalico getting a quick 6 points right before the buzzer. Out of the break, Cocalico made adjustments to distance themselves further. Sophomore Andrew Via scored 6 points to keep the Vikings around. In the 4th, Northern Lebanon again rebounded but could not make up the ground. Junior Riley Messinger scored 6 points in the final frame.

Via led the Vikings with 14 points, including going 5-6 from the free throw line.

After the game, LebCoSports.com caught up with Coach Chris George who had this to say:

“After a rough start, the kids regrouped nicely and battled hard for the rest of the 1st half. Kade Erdman got off to a nice start in his final game, helping to lead the effort. Everyone played their guts out. I’m really proud of our seniors Collin Wolfe, Luke Shaffer, and Kade Erdman who played great in their final game, giving all they had.”

He went on to talk about the future of Northern Lebanon Basketball and why many are optimistic:

“Our JV team finished 19-3 and our junior high has a bunch of great prospects.  Things are really looking up and the growth should continue to help us get back to where we’ve been in the past. We have a lot of key kids returning: Connor Stoltz, Ben Planken, Brian Bicksler, Donovan Brandt, Nolan Lesher, and Kael Erdman, along with our three leading scorers Riley Messinger, Andrew Via, and Brady Krall. Everyone is excited to get back to work, as our future is bright.”

Northern Lebanon’s (6-16) season is now complete, as they can now cheer on the girls who will play in the Lancaster Lebanon League Tournament on Saturday afternoon against Lebanon.
