For this week’s selections, we again decided to go with two very deserving athletes, as the voting from our readers was close and clearly was working to award the two young men who were chosen this week.

Reagan Flynn

Reagan Flynn has had quite the senior season as part of the two-headed monster that led Annville-Cleona Golf to an undefeated record and the Lancaster Lebanon League Section 4 Championship.  In fact, he led all of Section 4 in average score with a 76.7 over the course of six matches. This past weekend, Flynn competed at the District 3 Golf AA Championship, where he shot an Even 72/72 in the 36-hole tournament. His solid play allowed him to leave Briarwood East as the District 3 Champion.  For his efforts, he was selected as a LebCo Male Athlete of the Week.

Coach Todd Evans said of Flynn’s performance, “He played some great golf, his scrambling around the greens was top notch. To play even par in cool rainy conditions on Saturday was a true test to his game.”

He went on to talk about the senior’s District Championship, “His up and down on the par three 12th was a tremendous par save. Then he got up and down on the par five 17th from the railroad tracks for birdie.  He’s playing some of his best golf here in the post season.”

In winning the District 3 individual title, he earned a chance to compete at the PIAA State Championships for the 2nd straight year.  Last year, Flynn finished 25th and will be looking to improve upon that in his final high school tournament.

Flynn’s 72 at Districts tied an Annville record, set earlier this season by teammate Logan Francis, who will be joining him at States.

The PIAA State Championships will be held on Monday, October 16th and Tuesday, October 17th at the Penn State – White Course.  Good luck, Reagan!

And best of luck to Logan Francis, along with Cedar Crest’s Dylan Ramsey who will also be competing at States.

Elliott Kreider

The ELCO Raider Football Team is currently enjoying a 5-2 record.  Much of their offense has been driven by the running game, with Jake Williams as the focal point.  It’s hard not to focus on the running back who combines speed and power, torching opponents for 1,582 and 22 total touchdowns (23 total).

Williams will be the first to point to his teammates for his numbers.  Among those talented teammates that does as little bit of everything is fellow senior Elliott Kreider.  Last week in ELCO’s 56-21 win over Octorara, Kreider not only provided key blocking for Williams to do what he did (10 carries, 257 yards, 4 TDs), but he also carried the ball 3 times for 61 yards, scoring a touchdown.  He then had a 12-yard touchdown reception.  Kreider was also active on the defensive side of the ball, anchoring the linebacker corps and accounting for 10 tackles.  See his game film here.

It was this outstanding performance that led to the LebCoSports.com readers to select him as a LebCo Male Athlete of the Week.

When asking Kreider about his 2-touchdown performance against Octorara, he was quick to thank his teammates and his coaches.

Offensively through seven games, Kreider has a total of 212 yards rushing on 41 carries.  He has also caught 4 passes for 44 yards.  Through his efforts, he has found the end zone a total of 4 times.

Defensively, Kreider is one of two seniors who are considered starters on the Raider defense.  He is considered the leader of this young squad, calling the plays from the middle linebacker position.  Kreider’s presence also has such an impact that Coach Miller has the option to use Williams only on the offensive side of the ball.

Coach Miller had to say this about Kreider: “I’m really proud of Elliott’s efforts this season.  He is a selfless blocker who has sprung a lot of big runs for his teammates and on defense he is a leader who is playing at a really high level.  He’s got a bright future!”

Once the season is finished, Kreider will begin looking forward to playing Basketball and then competing in Track & Field.  While he plays 3-sports, Kreider is currently looking for an opportunity to continue his Football playing career at the collegiate level.

While we can talk about Kreider’s long-term future, he is just thinking about using his skills to help ELCO fight their way into the District 3 Playoffs.  That quest will start tonight when Kreider and his teammates head to Lampeter-Strasburg.

We wish Kreider the best of luck in his near and long-term future!
