Falcons Out-Hit Twin Valley, Fall in Extra-Inning Heartbreaker
Cedar Crest hosted Twin Valley on Friday in a non-league matchup, looking to turn things around during a tough stretch of the season. The Falcons battled into extra innings and out-hit the Raiders 11-8, but came up just short in a 5-4 loss.
For Cedar Crest, the result continued a frustrating trend. The Falcons have now lost five straight games, but they have remained competitive throughout the season, with seven of their eight losses coming by two runs or less.
Twin Valley opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd when Luke Raines grounded out to bring home a run. Cedar Crest answered in the bottom of the 4th, jumping in front after Brayden Dorshimer singled to left field and Chase Norrissingled down the right-field line, each driving in a run.
The Falcons added another run in the 5th, but Twin Valley battled back late. The Raiders scored twice in the top of the 7th, using RBI singles from Jayce Oliver and Nate Sedgwick to move in front 4-3.
Cedar Crest responded in the bottom half of the inning, as Brayden Dorshimer came through again with a single to center field that tied the game at 4-4 and forced extra innings.
The game remained tied until the top of the 9th, when Twin Valley pushed across the go-ahead run. Cedar Crest had one final chance in the bottom half, but the game ended on a double play as the Falcons were unable to complete the comeback.
Tyler Toscano gave Cedar Crest a strong start on the mound, allowing three hits and one unearned run over 4.2 innings while striking out one and walking one. Mason Copenhaver worked 1.2 innings in relief before Chase Norris took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits over 2.2 innings.
Cedar Crest’s offense produced throughout the lineup, with Carson DiBiaso leading the way by going 3-for-5. Brayden Dorshimer went 2-for-2 with two RBI, while Isaac Kreider and Chase Norris each collected two hits.
For Twin Valley, Nate Sedgwick drove in two runs, while Grant Moser and Chase Reilly each had two hits. Nate Lord earned the win in relief, allowing four hits and two runs, one earned, over five innings.
Cedar Crest is now 6-8 and remains in the final District 3 Class 6A playoff spot. The Falcons will begin their final push for the postseason on Monday when they travel to Ephrata.
