Raiders Celebrate Senior Night with Win over Conestoga Valley
After opening the week with a no-hitter from senior Austin Smith in a win over Cocalico, ELCO had its momentum slowed by a tough Donegal team on Wednesday. On Friday, the Raiders had a chance to finish the week on a better note when they hosted Conestoga Valley as part of senior night festivities.
ELCO did just that, using an early lead, a strong start from Braden Gettle, and a late insurance inning to earn a 5-2 win over the Buckskins.
The Raiders struck first in the bottom of the 2nd, when Zach Martin singled down the right-field line to bring home a run. Tanner Hibshman was then hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in another run and giving ELCO a 2-0 lead.
After both teams went scoreless over the next two innings, ELCO created separation in the 5th. Wyatt Parker helped drive the middle of the order, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI as the Raiders pushed across three runs to take a 5-0 lead.
Conestoga Valley broke through with two runs in the 6th, but Austin Smith came on in relief and closed the door. After throwing Monday’s no-hitter, Smith earned the save by working two scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out two and walking two.
Braden Gettle earned the win on the mound for ELCO, allowing five hits and two unearned runs over five innings. He struck out two and walked two while helping the Raiders control the game early.
ELCO finished with nine hits, with Tanner Hibshman and Wyatt Parker each collecting two. Queston Rivera, Zach Martin, and Parker each drove in runs, while Hibshman stole two bases as the Raiders finished with four stolen bases and turned one double play defensively.
For Conestoga Valley, Aiden Styer led the way out of the No. 9 spot, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jackson Buckwalteralso drove in a run for the Buckskins.
ELCO is now 7-8 and will have a chance to move back to .500 as the Raiders begin the final leg of their season with an away matchup at Garden Spot on Monday.
