Future Stars Shine at Lebanon County Junior High Championship Meet

One night before Lebanon County’s varsity track & field athletes took center stage, the next wave of county talent got its chance to shine.

On Thursday, the Lebanon County Junior High Track & Field Championship Meet was held at the Cedar Sports Complex, serving as both an appetizer for Friday evening’s high school championship meet and a preview of the many young athletes who could be climbing varsity podiums in the near future.

Just as they would at the high school level one night later, Cedar Crest swept the team championships. The Falcons won the girls team title with 121 points, finishing ahead of 2nd-place Palmyra, followed by Northern Lebanon, Lebanon, ELCO, and Annville-Cleona. On the boys side, Cedar Crest also claimed the county title with 136 points, while Annville-Cleona finished 2nd with 96 points.

More than anything, the meet showed the depth of developing talent across all six Lebanon County programs. From sprint wins and distance battles to relay finishes and field-event breakthroughs, Thursday’s junior high championship offered a glimpse of what the county track & field scene could look like over the next several seasons.

Girls Recap

Cedar Crest used balance across the track and field events to win the girls team championship, piling up points in the sprints, distance races, relays, jumps, and throws.

The Falcons were led by several event winners, including Kaiyen Templon, who won the 100m in 13.37 after running 12.99 in prelims. Madisyn Willis won the 800m in 2:39.31 and later helped the Falcons place 3rd in the 4x800m Relay. In the field events, Olivia Labe won the high jump at 4’10”, while Sophia Ventura added a strong throwing performance with a 2nd-place finish in the shot put and a 5th-place finish in the discus.

Cedar Crest also won the girls 4x400m Relay, as Maniyah Charles, Sawyer Watkins, Isabella Pugliese, and Taylor Jones teamed up to run 4:39.13. The Falcons were also 2nd in the 4x100m Relay and 3rd in the 4x800m Relay, helping build the points needed to secure the team title.

Palmyra finished 2nd in the girls standings and was led by one of the top field-event performers of the meet. Carolyn Warner swept the throws, winning the shot put at 37’9.75″ and the discus at 79’8″. Caroline Dinger also had a big day, winning the 400m in 1:03.86 and placing 4th in the 1600m.

Northern Lebanon showed strength in the hurdles and relays. Elizabeth Sechman won the 200m in 28.56, while Kayleigh DiPasquale won the 100m Hurdles in 17.56. The Vikings also won the 4x100m Relay and the 4x800m Relay, giving them several of the meet’s top performances.

ELCO picked up a distance win from Reese Everhart, who won the 1600m in 5:52.10. The Raiders also finished 2nd in the 4x400m Relay and got a 3rd-place finish from Aubrey Ebling in the 200m.

Lebanon had a strong sprint and throws showing, led by Jazalia Gonzalez, who finished 2nd in both the 100m and 100m Hurdles. Alexandra Nordall was 2nd in the discus and 4th in the shot put, while Mia Stauffer placed 3rd in the shot put and 7th in the discus.

Annville-Cleona’s top finish came from Anna Herling, who won the long jump at 15’6″. The Dutchmen also got runner-up finishes from Anna Rotunda in the 1600m and 4th-place marks from several athletes across the field events.

Boys Recap

Cedar Crest completed the junior high sweep by winning the boys team championship, using a wide range of scoring performances to separate itself from the field.

The Falcons had major production in the distance races, relays, jumps, and throws. Benjamin Conville won the 1600m in 5:16.58 and helped Cedar Crest win the 4x800m Relay. Carl Joseph won the high jump at 5’4″, while Elijah Harbaugh captured the long jump with a mark of 18’0″.

Cedar Crest also got a discus win from Brady Smith, who threw 123’10” and added a 2nd-place finish in the shot put. The Falcons’ 4x800m Relay team of Benjamin Conville, Freddie Gray, Julio Romero-Lopez, and Jude Mancino won in 9:51.16, while the 4x400m Relay team finished 2nd.

Palmyra finished 2nd in the boys standings and was led by Alijah Bailey, who won the 100m in 11.68 after running 11.67 in prelims. Bailey also placed 2nd in the 200m and 4th in the long jump, showing the type of sprint-jump ability that could translate well to the varsity level.

Annville-Cleona had one of the strongest event-specific showings of the meet on their way to a 2nd place team finish. Donald Kirst won the 200m in 24.64, while Mason Boltz won the 400m in 56.33 and placed 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the long jump. Finn Cullen won the 100m Hurdles in 16.43, and the Dutchmen also swept the sprint relays, winning both the 4x100m and 4x400m.

Lebanon was led by its distance group and sprint depth. Jowmi Torres Nieves won the 800m in 2:19.12 and placed 2nd in the 1600m, while Ian Aviles finished 3rd in both the 800m and 1600m. Patrick Fields added a 3rd-place finish in the 100m and a 2nd-place finish in the long jump.

ELCO got a field-event win from Wyatt Ness, who threw 42’0″ to win the shot put and also placed 2nd in the discus. Joash Jalique was 4th in both the 800m and 1600m, while the Raiders were 2nd in the 4x800m Relay.

Northern Lebanon had several young athletes gain valuable championship experience, including relay scoring in the 4x100m, 4x400m, and 4x800m. Titus Feagley placed 8th in the 200m and 11th in the long jump, while Cooper Bouchette was 9th in the 100m Hurdles.
