Youth Football Weekly Round-Up: September 14

This feature recaps last weekend’s action from the youth football organizations that chose to partner with LebCoSports.  Much of the reporting below is written by the dedicated volunteers within these organizations.

     Falcon Youth Football

Red Rose Midget Football League Age group information

B (2-0)      Falcons 38 v Elizabethtown Bears 7

C (1-1)      Falcons 0 v Elizabethtown Bears 34

D (0-1-1)      Falcons 0 v Elizabethtown Bears 0

      • The Falcons “B” Team was well-prepared for the weather and relied on a strong run game and an outstanding, total team defensive to beat E-Town by 31 points. Coach Tirado was very pleased with how his squad dominated the game.  Hayden Snavely emerged as the standout player for the Falcons, as he made an impact on both sides of the ball.
      • The Falcons “C” Team struggled mightily against E-Town’s strong run attack.  Whatever could go wrong went wrong for the home team.  The coaching staff stressed to the young players that this was a learning opportunity.
      • The Falcons “D” Team ended their game with E-Town in a scoreless tie.  According to reports, the Falcons played a great game and did everything but score. On defense they held E-town to minimal yards with Chase Reesman flying all over the field to make key tackles. Several Falcons contributed in moving the ball on offense, but the biggest play happened when Reesman almost broke a big touchdown run, but was ruled out of bounds during the longest run of the afternoon.  Killion Serafin also had a big day with several first down runs and several key tackles on the defensive end
      • Up Next: The Falcons take a road trip to play Penn Manor.

Mites (1-0)       Panthers 35 v Kutztown Cougars 0

Mighty Mites (0-1)     Panthers 7 v Kutztown Cougars 21

      • On Sunday, the Myerstown Panthers hosted Kutztown in the season opener.
      • The Panthers Midget team scored on the first play from scrimmage on a 62-yard bomb from Gavin Yeiser to Chandler Gass. This set the tone early and they never looked back. Conner Savitsky scored two touchdowns, returning a punt and adding one through rushing.
      • The Mites dominated their match-up, controlling the game on both sides of the ball.
      • The Mighty Mites scored once, but were unable to keep up with Kutztown.
      • Up Next: Myerstown travels east on Sunday to take on the Muhlenberg Mules.

     Northern Lebanon Vikings

CFA – Federal Conference Age group information

Midgets (1-2)     Vikings 0 @ Lebanon Raiders 36

Ponies (2-1)        Vikings 13 @ Lebanon Raiders 12

Peewees (1-2)     Vikings 0 @ Lebanon Raiders 6

Smurfs                Exhibition/Developmental

      • This week the Northern Lebanon Vikings traveled a short distance down the road to compete with the Lebanon Raiders on Saturday afternoon.
      • The Viking Midgets suffered their 2nd straight loss. Although their offense struggled the defense came up with a few big plays. Azir Mcadoo had a fumble recovery which stopped an early Raiders drive. Johnny Hilton added an interception for the Vikings.
      • In what was a very exciting game, the Viking Pony squad was able to defeat the Raiders 13-12 in a back and forth game. After giving up a touchdown early in the 2nd quarter, the Vikings responded with a long drive of their own capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run by QB Markus Miller.  This tied the game 6-6.  The Viking defense then stopped a drive by the Raiders near the endzone to end the 1st half. The Raiders struck first in the second half with a touchdown drive. The Vikings were quick to respond, with tough TD run by RB Jonathan Zimmerman, tying the game at 12.  Zimmerman then ran in the extra point attempt to give the Vikings a 13-12 lead with 2:30 left to go in the game. The Vikings defense then were able to stop a valiant attempt of scoring by the Raiders to secure the victory.
      • The Peewee team lost a defensive battle to the Raiders. The leading tacklers for the Vikings were Jacob Bomberger and Braiden Harris. Offensively the Vikes could not get much going against the Raiders’ tough defense.
      • The Viking Smurfs had a very successful day. Scoring touchdowns for the Vikings youngest squad were Brandon Heist, Kyson Clark, and Beckett Wetzel. Leading the way for their offense was a strong offensive line of Alex Dipasquale, Brylan Hetrick, Liam Stoner, Roman Tentylo, and Cade Roy. Defensively, the biggest play of the game was a fumble forced by Bradley Mazalewski and recovered by Heist. Cameron Miller was the star of the game on defense, making tackles all over the field.
      • Up Next: The Vikings will host Steelton Li’l Rollers on Saturday afternoon.

      • In their second home game of the season, the PMFA Cougars hosted the Eagles from Seven Sorrows at Buck Swank Stadium.  The Eagles left the 17078 with a nest full of goose (or eagle) eggs.
      • The Midget Cougars were prowling the fence line at the Buck like a hungry cat. From the first whistle until the last, these Cougars ate. They were able to put up points on both sides of the ball. The Cougars went on a mission to assert their will and succeeded in the process.  This enabled the entire depth chart to get much needed game experience that will help to further develop the program.
      • The Pony Cougars were worked up into a beserker frenzy before the kickoff by their older Cougar teammates. Much like a caged, wild animal that suddenly got loose, they came bursting onto the field to get themselves back on track. With 217 yards in the air, 131 across the ground, and multiple special teams splash plays, it is safe to say they were not going to permit another close game.
      • The Peewee Cougars had another consistent week. Swapping between ground and air attacks on offense seemed second nature to the 9U team. On defense, they forced plays to be run where they wanted and capitalized on it.
      • The Smurf Cougars roared back from previous week’s struggles and attacked the Eagles at every turn. When the youngest Cougars took the field, they clearly chose fight over flight.
      • Palmyra HS Football Coach Chris Pavone was in attendance as well as many of the High School Cougars to support, cheer on,  and check in on how the future is shaping up for Palmyra.
      • The Harrisburg Havoc (a women’s semi-pro team) also got to watch the female athletes on the Cougars squads and give them words of praise and insight.
      • Up Next: Palmyra travels to take on the Warriors of Gettysburg.
