LebCo Athlete of the Week Voting: May 4 – 10

 

 

Presented in coordination with Froggy Valley 100.1/WiLBuR 99.7 & Lebanon Federal Credit Union.

 


 

Help us decide which male and female athlete should be honored for their outstanding efforts during last week’s local high school sports action.  While you may have a favorite school or athlete already, we still encourage you to read through the lists below and then click on the link to vote.

Voting will remain open until Thursday at 10 pm.

While athletes can be nominated multiple weeks, the winners will be removed and updates will be provided as the season progresses.

While this may be a vote and emotions can run high, this is intended to bring attention to some of the best performances from our local student-athletes.

Nominations, which are made working with the schools, are listed below in alphabetical order.

Please read about each nominee, celebrate their accomplishment, and then go vote who you feel is most deserving of this week’s honor. 

The winners will be announced at the end of the week.

Female Nominees

Maddie Nelson (ELCO / So.) – Track & Field: Facing one of the league’s deepest sprint and hurdle fields, Nelson turned in 3 medal-winning performances at the Lancaster Lebanon League Championships. The sophomore placed 5th in the 100m in 12.44, 5th in the 300m hurdles in 47.19, and helped ELCO’s 4x100m relay take 8th in 51.82, while also qualifying for District 3 Class 3A in both the 100m and 300m hurdles.

Keira Palski (Northern Lebanon / Fr.) – Softball: Palski continued to give Northern Lebanon quality production as the Vikings closed the regular season strong and advanced in the Lancaster Lebanon League Playoffs. The freshman went 2-5 with a run scored in a 12-5 win over ELCO, then added another hit in a 5-2 quarterfinal victory over Penn Manor as Northern Lebanon improved to 18-3.

Aubri Pisano (Lebanon / So.) – Softball: Pisano helped spark a much-needed breakthrough week for Lebanon, including the Cedars’ first win of the season. The sophomore went 4-4 with 2 RBI, 5 runs scored, and 3 walks over the week, highlighted by a strong offensive effort in Lebanon’s 23-1 victory over Hanover.

Eliana Schneider (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Track & Field: Schneider delivered one of the top all-around performances at the Lancaster Lebanon League Championships while helping Cedar Crest’s girls place 2nd as a team. The senior won gold in the high jump at 5’4” and the javelin at 142’9”, then came back to place 2nd in the 800m in 2:13.49, while Kaddel Howard added gold-medal efforts in the 200m and 400m as the Falcons piled up enough points to finish behind only powerhouse McCaskey.

Mackenzie Stellmach (Annville-Cleona / Sr.) – Track & Field: Stellmach gave Annville-Cleona another steady distance effort against a loaded field at the Lancaster Lebanon League Championships. The senior placed 8th in the 3200m in 11:34.14 and 11th in the 1600m in 5:25.40, then carried that momentum into District 3 Class 2A as the No. 2 seed in the 3200m and No. 3 seed in the 1600m.

Maddy Waldron (Palmyra / Jr.) – Track & Field: Waldron led Palmyra’s medal push at the Mid Penn Championships with 3 runner-up finishes against a 30-team field. The junior placed 2nd in the 100m in 12.39, 2nd in the 200m in 25.29, and ran on the Cougars’ 2nd-place 4x100m relay that finished in 49.84, qualifying for District 3 Class 3A in all 3 events.

Male Nominees

Blake Burdick (Northern Lebanon / So.) – Baseball: Shutting down Manheim Township in the Lancaster Lebanon League semifinals was the headliner for Burdick’s week. The sophomore gave Northern Lebanon 6.1 strong innings against the Blue Streaks, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 5, then earlier in the week went 4-4 with a double, a triple, 3 runs scored, and 3 RBI in a 15-5 win over Annville-Cleona.

Eddie Ferrer (Lebanon / Sr.) – Track & Field: Ferrer led Lebanon’s boys at the Lancaster Lebanon League Championships with a medal-winning finish in one of the meet’s deepest field events. The senior placed 6th in the triple jump at 42’4”, then also cleared 5’10” in the high jump to give the Cedars another strong all-around effort in the field events.

Max Fleischer (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Track & Field: Depth points mattered in Cedar Crest’s first boys league title since 2014, and Fleischer came through with a pair of big field-event finishes. The senior placed 3rd in the triple jump at 43’1.5” and 3rd in the javelin at 170’10”, providing critical scoring behind the gold-medal efforts of Landen Weaber, Travis Furmanski, and Cam Tirado.

Oliver Funck (Annville-Cleona / Sr.) – Track & Field: Funck turned in an outstanding weekend at the Lancaster Lebanon League Championships, finishing runner-up in 2 of the meet’s premier distance races. He opened Friday night by taking 2nd in the 3200m in 9:29.42, then came back Saturday and battled Cedar Crest’s Travis Furmanski to a 2nd-place finish in the 1600m in 4:17.03, with both runners pushing each other to new personal records.

Adam Strohecker (Palmyra / Sr.) – Baseball: Another division title push featured Strohecker in the middle of it. The senior went 3-4 with a home run and 4 RBI in Palmyra’s 16-7 win over Gettysburg to help secure a second straight Mid Penn Keystone Division championship, then added 2 more hits and an RBI as the Cougars blanked Red Land to lock up District 3’s top seed. He is now batting .369 with 23 RBI on the season, providing a powerful offensive pop alongside of the likes of Aidan Willard.

Isaac Tanger (ELCO / Jr.) – Baseball: A 5-RBI day fueled Tanger’s nomination after he helped power ELCO past Octorara 15-1. The junior went 2-4 with a double, including a 2-run double during the Raiders’ 7-run 2nd inning and a 2-run single in the 3rd, while also helping guide a clean defensive game from behind the plate.
