Athlete of the Week Voting: April 28 – May 4

Presented in coordination with Froggy Valley 100.1/WiLBuR 99.7 & Lebanon Federal Credit Union.

Help us decide which male and female athlete should be honored for their outstanding efforts during last week’s local high school sports action.  While you may have a favorite school or athlete already, we still encourage you to read through the lists below and then click on the link to vote.

The winners will be announced at the end of the week. Linked below are the articles about our most recent winners of the award.

Voting will remain open until Thursday at 10 pm.

One vote per email address, per day will be allowed.

While athletes can be nominated multiple weeks, the winners will be removed and updates will be provided as the season progresses.

While this may be a vote and emotions can run high, this is intended to bring attention to some of the best performances from our local student-athletes.

Nominations, which are made working with the schools, are listed below in alphabetical order.

Please read about each nominee, celebrate their accomplishment, and then go vote who you feel is most deserving of this week’s honor.

Male Nominees

Tyler Burgess (Palmyra / Sr.) – Track & Field: The senior hurdler traveled to Maryland on Saturday to take part in the Puma East Coast International Showcase. Burgess not only won the 110m High Hurdles, but his time of 13.28 was the 8th fastest time ever run by an American high schooler.

Zach Martin (ELCO / Jr.) – Baseball: While the Raiders lost to Manheim Central & Garden Spot, there were some positive takeaways. Among the bright spots was Martin, who went a combined 2-6 with a double, an RBI & 2 runs scored. More importantly, Martin continued to show his defensive abilities at the shortstop position after replacing Dallas George following George’s graduation.

Sebastian Cruz (Lebanon / Sr.) – Baseball: Last Monday, the Cedars earned a 5-0 win against Solanco. Cruz used Senior Night to fuel Lebanon’s offense, going 4-4 with 3 RBI & a home run.

Zane Smoker (Northern Lebanon / Sr.) – Tennis: The senior placed 5th at the Lancaster Lebanon League Championships in #1 Singles. In the final match of the tournament, Smoker earned a hard fought 7-6, 7-5 victory over his opponent from Lancaster Catholic.

Colin Ward (Palmyra / Sr.) – Lacrosse: The senior goalie set a new school record when he recorded his 500th career save. Ward’s solid goaltending helped the Cougars finish the week with a 10-6 record, placing them squarely into the mix for postseason qualification.

Jack Wolgemuth (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Volleyball: On May 1st, the Falcons earned a 3-0 Hempfield to earn a key LL Section 1 victory. This capped off a perfect 3-0 week, during which Crest won all 9 sets. Against the Black Knights, Wolgemuth was fantastic, tallying 9 kills & 14 digs. He also averaged a 3.0 in serve/receive ratio in the game, limiting Hempfield’s chances to score.
