This week, several area high school basketball teams squared off in the annual Sweep the Streets Tournament organized by George “Gzo” Rodriguez. The Boys’ event marked its ninth edition, while the Girls’ tournament took place for the first time. For both, the competition offers an early glimpse of the high school season that will commence this Winter.
Below is a quick recap of the results from each tournament.

Boys Results
Eight Boys’ teams reported to Coleman Park on Wednesday night. The list of teams included LebCo teams Annville-Cleona, Cedar Crest, ELCO, and Lebanon, along with a JV entry from Cedar Crest. They were joined by Conestoga Valley, Tulpehocken, and Blue Mountain.
While the action began at Coleman’s, it would finish up at Cedar Crest High School following a strong line of storms that led to contingency plans being implemented. This meant that Cedar Crest Varsity was in their home gym when they again claimed the Sweep the Streets Championship with a win over a pesky crew from Annville-Cleona.
Cedar Crest’s road to the Finals included wins over Tulpehocken and Lebanon. By all accounts, the game against the Cedars was highly competitive, with Lebanon coming off a win over ELCO in the first round.
Annville-Cleona earned their spot in the Championship game by taking down Conestoga Valley and then the talented Cedar Crest JVs.
Cedar Crest rising senior RJ Young, a LebCo All-County 1st Team All-Star this past season, was named the MVP of the Tournament for the second straight year.
Due to the weather, there was not a 3rd place game which would have matched ELCO up against Conestoga Valley.

Girls Results
On Thursday, the inaugural edition of the Sweep the Streets Girls Tournament took place at Coleman Park. The event included four teams, all of whom were District 3 Playoff qualifiers last season. The three LebCo teams that took part in the action were Cedar Crest, Lebanon, and Northern Lebanon. Manheim Township, another representative from Lancaster Lebanon League Section 1, joined them.
In the semifinals, Lebanon was matched up against Northern Lebanon with the Cedars defeating the Lady Vikings. In the other game to determine who would make it to the Championship round, Cedar Crest cruised by Manheim Township.
In the Finals, Lebanon defeated their crosstown rival. Rising senior Liliana Harrison was named the MVP for the Cedars, as they once again used strong team play to earn the victory.
Northern Lebanon earned 3rd place by defeating Manheim Township to finish 1-1 on the day.
