Swimming – 2023 District 3 Championships: Day 2 Results

Following Friday, when the first six events off were held, swimmers were back in the pool at Cumberland Valley High School to continue the District 3 Swim Championships.  The Lebanon County contingent of swimmers looked to add to the medal haul that they had already started when Lebanon Carlos Hidalgo grabbed gold and Northern Lebanon’s Carter Cheslock earned a 7th place medal.

There was much hope that Hidalgo would bring home his second gold on Saturday, this time in the 100 yard version of the Freestyle.  The Cedar senior did not disappoint, as he beat the next nearest competitor to the wall by .13 seconds.  In winning, not only did Hidalgo win his second gold, but he doubled the number of District Swimming Championship gold medals ever won by a Lebanon athlete.

Hidalgo’s teammate Will Parker had his sights on adding a shiny medal to his collection after winning the breaststroke at the Lancaster Lebanon League Meet.  While it may not been the color of his dreams, Parker made the trek home with a shiny silver medal, after a narrow .05 second loss at the end of the 100 yard race.

While there were not any other medal winners on the day, a majority of the swimmers outpaced their previous season bests.  There were also several swimmers who finished just out of medal contention, such as Annville-Cleona’s Cameron Connelly who finished 9th in the AA 100 backstroke and Northern Lebanon’s Carter Cheslock who in the AA 100 freestyle also finished 9th.  Both of these athletes are juniors and will be squarely in medal contention next season.  Another one to watch in the the future after his 10th place finish in the breaststroke is Collin Cheslock, the freshman brother of Carter.

We will work to keep you updated once the PIAA State Championship qualifiers are confirmed.  The PIAA State Championship will take place at Bucknell University beginning March 15th.
