Lancaster-Lebanon League Wrestling Championships: LebCo Results

On Friday and Saturday, wrestlers from across the Lancaster-Lebanon League descended upon Manheim Township to hit the mats in hopes of making the podium.  In total, forty-six wrestlers from Lebanon County’s five League schools competed in the meet. When all of the grappling was complete, eighteen of them finished in the top eight of their respective weight class and earned a spot on the medal stand.  Headlining those receiving honors were the two newly minted (though repeating) League Champions, Aaron Seidel of Northern Lebanon and Griffin Gonzalez of Lebanon.

Seidel, the defending PIAA State Champion, won the 107 pound weight division by defeating ELCO’s Ashton Kriss in the finals.  The sophomore is now 32-0 on the season and looks ready for the challenge of taking the top spot in the Commonwealth again this year.

Gonzalez defeated Warwick’s Andrew McClune in the finals, giving him his fourth League crown in his storied career.  Two of his bouts were won on pins (15 seconds and 33 seconds), while two others were technical falls (think mercy rule).  As a result of his dominant performance, Gonzalez won the Ken Ober Outstanding Wrestler for the tournament.  This was the second time he won this award.  What this performance showed was that finishing 7^th in the PIAA State Tournament last year only made this young man hungrier going into his final high school post-season.

In addition to the individual accomplishments, another storyline emerged during this tournament as Northern Lebanon was in the running to take the top spot as a team.  They finished 2^nd overall, posting 166.5 points.  Only Hempfield was better, finishing with 172 points.
