Adrian Gonzalez

During the opening week of the 2026 baseball season, Northern Lebanon senior Adrian Gonzalez delivered the type of performance that can set the tone for an entire year. In the Vikings’ season-opening win over Conestoga Valley, Gonzalez was dominant on the mound, firing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out ten batters without issuing a walk. He also produced the game’s only offense, driving in both runs on a 2-RBI hit to make the difference. Those efforts earned Gonzalez recognition from the LebCoSports.com community as the LebCo Athlete of the Week.
Facing a quality opponent, Gonzalez called it a strong start against a good Conestoga Valley team. Known as “Gonzo” to teammates and friends, he looked every bit like an ace right out of the gate, mixing command and swing-and-miss stuff while staying in control from the first inning through the final out.
Gonzalez’s goals for the season match the standard he set in that opener. He wants to keep his ERA under 1.00 and hit over .400 again, numbers that reflect both his confidence and his ability to impact the game from multiple angles.
Those expectations are rooted in what he’s already proven. Last season, Gonzalez went 9-1 with a 1.77 ERA. Known primarily for what he can do on the mound, he was also a major threat at the plate, hitting .462.

And early signs point to another big spring. Through 2 starts, Gonzalez has posted a 1.11 ERA across 13.1 innings, striking out 10 in each outing for 20 total Ks while issuing just 1 walk. He is also a major reason why the Vikings are currently 4-0.
Northern Lebanon’s bigger picture stays simple, too. Gonzalez’s focus is the same one the Vikings chase every year, and the urgency only grows as a senior with the ball in his hands. The goal is a District 3 Championship, and he wants it as badly as anyone in the dugout.
Coach Travis Thome, who has been Gonzalez’s coach since his freshman season, said Gonzalez has established himself as the kind of arm teams build around.
“There are a handful of pitchers in the Lancaster Lebanon League that have established themselves as an anchor for their program,” Thome said. “Adrian has done that here at Northern Lebanon. Any game that he is on the mound, you know what you are going to get. His ability to attack hitters along with his development of pitches has been fun to watch.”

Behind the scenes, Gonzalez has also put in the work to keep leveling up. A two-time LebCo Pitcher of the Year during his freshman and sophomore seasons, he’s earned plenty of recognition already, but he pointed to a challenge that tested him in the offseason. He worked to gain muscle, and the process demanded patience when he plateaued at the same weight for 2 to 3 months. The diligence has seemingly paid off.
Next up, Gonzalez already has his future lined up. He plans to attend Penn State Harrisburg to continue pitching, and longer term, he can see himself staying in the game as a coach or trainer.
Athletics run in the family too. Gonzalez gave credit to his cousin Andrew Via, Northern Lebanon’s shortstop, who earned 2nd Team Section All-Star honors last year and is also a standout on the basketball court.
When he isn’t training, Gonzalez keeps his routine straightforward. He’s focused on building strength, which means eating as much protein as possible.
When it comes to what he enjoys most about sports, it all comes back to one thing: The competitiveness. Something he puts into practice, but also enjoys watching from others. One fun fact that tends to surprise people is that he watches a lot of Formula 1 racing.
Congratulations to Adrian on being named LebCo Athlete of the Week, and best of luck to him and his Viking teammates as they build off a statement start and chase that District Championship goal this spring.
