Palmyra Breaks Game Open with 9-Run 3rd in Win Over Lebanon
Palmyra erupted for 9 runs in the 3rd inning Friday, breaking the game open on the way to a 15-0 win over Lebanon in a shortened non-league contest. After building an early lead through the first two innings, the Cougars put the game out of reach with a relentless 3rd inning at the plate and strong work on the mound behind Mathew Eldridge.
Palmyra got on the board in the 1st when Aiden Willard brought home a run on a groundout. The Cougars added to the advantage in the 2nd, capitalizing on a Lebanon error before Nolan Bown drove in another run to make it 4-0. Then came the decisive 3rd inning, when Palmyra sent wave after wave to the plate and produced 9 runs on 7 hits. Gabe Kern delivered an RBI single, Joey White added a 2-run single, Luke Risser drove in a run with a hit, Ezra Good followed with an RBI single, and Adam Strohecker chipped in a run-scoring hit as the Cougars blew things open.
That offensive outburst was more than enough support for Eldridge, who was sharp from the start. He worked all four innings for Palmyra, allowing just 1 hit and no runs while striking out 7 and walking 2. He kept Lebanon off balance throughout and never allowed the Cedars to generate any sustained pressure.
The Cougars finished with 12 hits and got production throughout the lineup. White led the way by going 3-3 with 3 runs scored, while Bown went 2-3 with a double, 3 RBI, and a run scored. Julian Meley added a triple, 2 RBI, and 2 runs, while Risser drove in 2 and scored twice. Willard, Good, Strohecker, Abram Good, and Kern all contributed to a balanced attack. Palmyra also created pressure on the bases with 4 stolen bases and played clean defensively without committing an error.
Lebanon’s lone hit came from Diego Serrano, who went 1-1 with a double and a walk. On the mound, Micah Krouse worked the first 2 innings, allowing 4 runs, 1 earned, on 2 hits. Justin Miranda and Kaeler Ortiz followed in relief, with Lebanon also turning a double play defensively despite the lopsided final.
With the win, Palmyra improved to 3-0 and will head to Hershey for its next game on Tuesday.
For Lebanon, the matchup marked the Cedars’ season opener. Lebanon fell to 0-1 and will look to regroup when it travels to Cedar Crest on Monday.
