Palmyra 57, Red Land 17
The Lady Cougars crossed the Susquehanna on Friday night to take on Red Land. For Palmyra, it was their first contest since a tough loss to Mechanicsburg exactly one week ago — and needless to say, they were itching to get back out there and put up a dub.
Sure enough, Palmyra came out firing on all cylinders, taking a 19-4 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Addi Salus and Elyse Ancharski each scored 6 points in the opening frame, with Ancharski doing damage with an and-one and a three-pointer.
In the 2nd quarter, the Cougars stayed on the hunt, scoring 21 to take a 40-12 lead into halftime. Ancharski knocked down another three and again led the way with 7 points in the quarter. Kaylee Seltzer and Addy Eckert also each hit a three, while Salus and Mya Doster stayed constant threats with 4 points apiece.
Palmyra slowed the pace in the 3rd quarter, but also didn’t allow a point from Red Land, building a very comfortable lead and cruising the rest of the way.
Ancharski finished with 16 points, including three three-pointers. Salus added 12, and Doster also reached double figures with 10. Freshman Skylynn Gingrich chipped in 8 points, drilling two late threes as Coach Rodriguez was able to go deep into the bench and give several younger players valuable varsity experience.
Palmyra (11-8) is set to host Hershey on Tuesday evening.

ELCO 44, Garden Spot 38
After crafting a huge win at home over Northern Lebanon on Thursday night, the Lady Raiders were right back at it Friday — this time with a road trip to Garden Spot. For ELCO, a win at Spot would make it four in a row and five of their last six, as the late-season surge has solidified their position for a District 3 playoff berth.
ELCO got off to a strong start as Ava Seifert got the party started with 8 points in the 1st quarter, while Ava Beck scored 5. Each of them knocked down a three-pointer as the Raiders raced out to a 15-8 lead by the end of the opening frame.
In the 2nd quarter, the Spartans clamped down, limiting ELCO to a pair of free throws from Addy Mays and another from Kenzie Eckhart. At halftime, the Raiders found themselves trailing 19-18.
The 3rd quarter was played to an 8-8 draw, as neither team was able to gain an edge.
With Garden Spot still leading by one heading into the 4th, ELCO needed one final push to pick up the key road victory — and they got it. Three-pointers from Seifert and Eckhart, along with the Raiders going a combined 6-for-8 from the line, helped push ELCO across the finish line as they outscored their hosts 18-11 over the final eight minutes.
Seifert led the scoring with 15 points, including two three-pointers. Eckhart, who became ELCO girls basketball’s ninth 1,000-point scorer a night earlier, scored 5 points in the 4th quarter on her way to a 10-point night. Mays added 8 points, while Beck finished with 7. A key stat: as a team, the Raiders went 12-for-15 from the foul line.
ELCO (12-8) will look to keep the momentum going Monday with a tough road game at Lancaster Catholic.

ELCO 27, Northern Lebanon 25
On January 5th, the first LebCo Sports Live featured a hard-fought matchup between ELCO and host Northern Lebanon, a game won by the Lady Vikings that came down to a strong push in the 4th quarter. On Thursday night, the two teams met again — this time in Myerstown. And also this time, Northern Lebanon was without Hayley Sheroky for the second straight game. It would again prove to be another tough game that wasn’t decided until the final moments.
With it being Senior Night, there was a moment of sportsmanship displayed when Maddie Stout took a pass from Alexis Hart for the game’s opening basket. Both young women suffered injuries that cut short their senior campaigns.
Once the action got started, it was all Northern Lebanon in the 1st quarter as the Vikings took a 7-4 lead. Besides Stout’s bucket, ELCO’s only points came from a pair of Ava Seifert free throws. Meanwhile, Kasey Weimer led the Vikings with 5 points, while Bella Battistelli came off the bench and scored 2.
While the game remained a defensive battle, ELCO responded in the 2nd quarter to take a 12-10 lead into halftime. In the frame, Kenzie Eckhart and Seifert each scored 4 points. Saoirse Phillips had Northern Lebanon’s only field goal of the quarter.
Entering the 3rd quarter, Eckhart found herself sitting just two points away from the 1,000-point milestone for her career. She quickly got the chance to reach the mark at the foul line, converting both attempts. She then hit a three-pointer and two more free throws, scoring all seven of ELCO’s points in the quarter as the Raiders won the frame 7-6 and extended the lead.
With the scoreboard reading 19-16 entering the 4th, an upset was brewing. Weimer, who scored 4 in the 3rd, continued to lead her team with 7 points down the stretch as the Vikings showed they would not fold easily. However, a pair of Ava Beck three-pointers helped keep ELCO out in front for much of the quarter.
Then, with the score tied 25-25, ELCO turned to Eckhart, who converted on a drive and layup with just under seven seconds remaining. That would be it, as the ELCO defense did not allow Northern Lebanon to get off a final shot.
Eckhart finished with 13 points, capped by the game-winner, and went a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line. The LVC commit became the ninth player in ELCO girls basketball history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Weimer finished with a game-high 16 points for Northern Lebanon, hitting one three-pointer and going 5-for-6 at the line.
ELCO (11-8) will travel to Garden Spot on Friday. Northern Lebanon (15-4) will travel Saturday to take on Middletown.

Lebanon 58, Hempfield 44
On Thursday night, the Cedars hosted Hempfield for Round 2 of their Section 1 matchups this season.
Lebanon got out to a solid start, building a 12-6 lead by the end of the 1st quarter led with 5 points from Olive Brandtand 4 points from Nina Harrison.
Hempfield would respond in the 2nd quarter, cutting Lebanon’s lead down to 5 points, but Lebanon was showing that they were still in control of the game with three pointers from Skylar Strickler and Brandt fueling the offensive performance. At halftime, the Cedars were up 20-15.
In the 3rd quarter, that rate of scoring increased for both teams. Brandt scored 9 points, while Jezauni Hernandez hit a trey and Tayana Camuy scored 5 points, as Lebanon scored 17 points in the quarter. However, it was nearly bucket for bucket, as Lebanon was only able to add one point to their lead.
Entering the 4th quarter, Lebanon was up 37-31 and quickly saw an opportunity to put the game away for good. The quarter belonged to Brandt as the senior scored 14 points, with an outstanding 8-9 performance from the foul line as Hempfield attempted to claw back. As a result, the Cedars were able to pull away for what was a comfortable victory and the season sweep of the Black Knights.
In the game, Brandt finished with 31 points. She hit three three pointers and was 10-14 from the foul line. Harrisonfinished with 10 points, while Stickler and Hernandez each had 6 points.

Annville-Cleona 56, Lancaster Country Day 8
On Wednesday night, the Dutchmen hit the road to Lancaster Country Day. With four games remaining, Annville-Cleona was looking to improve its postseason chances, as the Dutchmen entered the night on the outside looking in.
Things got off to a great start, as Annville used suffocating defense and found its offensive rhythm to build an 18-0 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. In the opening eight minutes, four Dutchmen scored four points each: Georgia Sellers, Addy Sanchez, Cait Shay, and Dana Hoover.
Annville continued to roll in the 2nd quarter, outscoring LCD 15-2 to take a commanding 33-2 lead into halftime. The scoring effort again relied on a shared approach, with Valeria Russo leading the way in the frame with 4 points.
The pace slowed slightly out of the break as Coach Sanchez continued to use a large rotation, but the Dutchmen stayed in control, outscoring LCD 23-6 over the final two quarters. In the second half, Russo scored 7 points and Savannah Kleinfelter added 6.
In the win, Russo led the scoring with 13 points, an effort that included a made three-pointer. Sellers was the only other Dutchman in double figures with 10 points. In all, nine different Annville-Cleona players registered points in the victory.
