Benjamin Allwein

In his very first season of high school golf, Annville-Cleona freshman Benjamin Allwein has wasted little time proving he belongs among the county’s elite. He closed out the regular season by firing a four-under-par 66 in the Section 4 finale at Honeybrook, a performance that capped off a perfect run in which he finished first in all six matches. His prowess on the golf course impressed many, leading to him being voted as LebCo Athlete of the Week.
Allwein ended the regular season as the lowest scoring golfer in Section 4, establishing himself as one of the county’s top young players. Along with teammate Logan Francis, he gave the Dutchmen a strong one-two punch at the top of the lineup.
“Benjamin had tremendous first year so far, he averaged 69.0 for the regular season,” said Annville-Cleona Head Coach Todd Evans. “He puts in a lot of effort into bettering his game, and the hard work is paying off. He brings the whole team up and pushes everyone to be better. I’m excited to see what he and our team can accomplish in the postseason.”
The Dutchmen finished 2nd in Section 4 behind Pequea Valley, but at Monday’s Lancaster Lebanon League Championship, Allwein and his teammates got the better of their rivals to win the AA Team Championship, securing their spot at the District 3 Championships later this week. Allwein placed 5th overall, while Francis finished as the best golfer in the league. With their momentum building, the Dutchmen are hoping their talented duo can continue to carry them.

Reflecting on his season so far, Allwein said, “I’ve been really happy with my game this season. I’ve enjoyed playing the different courses and I hope I can continue to play strong in the postseason.”
His personal goal is to qualify for States, while also helping his teammates finish strong together. He’s especially enjoyed finally sharing the course with his “senior friend” Logan Francis, making this a memorable first year with Annville-Cleona golf.
Allwein is quick to recognize those who have supported his journey, including God, his family, Coach Evans, his dad Steve, and swing coach Rob Rowe. He noted, “Golf is hard and it challenges me every day. I love the challenge. Success comes from hard work and the ability to shake off a bad shot and move on.”
Outside of golf, the freshman stays busy with basketball, track and field, and swimming. He credits his athletic family background for fueling his competitive drive, noting that his mom was a Division I pole vaulter and his dad was a strong golfer. When not training, he enjoys playing basketball and spending time with friends and family.
Looking ahead, Allwein hopes to one day compete in Division I golf while pursuing his college education. For now, he remains focused on the challenge right in front of him — the District 3 Championships — where he’ll aim to keep hitting fairways, draining putts, and making the most of a stellar freshman season.
