Mighty Mites (0-1) Muhls 18, Panthers 12

The Panther Midgets opened their season at home against a talented Muhlenberg squad, falling 32–0 despite several promising drives. Hard running from Tucker Robert and Corbin Showalter moved the chains early, but turnovers proved costly as the Muhls built a 13–0 first-quarter lead. Myerstown continued to battle, showing toughness on both sides of the ball, but Muhlenberg capitalized with scores in the second and fourth quarters, including a long catch-and-run late in the game. While the scoreboard wasn’t in their favor, the Panthers showed resilience and offensive potential that will serve them well moving forward.

The Panther Mites started their season with a statement, shutting out Muhlenberg 13–0. The breakthrough came in the third quarter when Kaiden Vincent capped a six-play drive with a 14-yard touchdown run. In the fourth, Owen Hall powered into the end zone from two yards out to extend the lead. The offensive line paved the way all afternoon, while the defense was dominant—allowing just two first downs. Jackson Liskey was a disruptive force at defensive end, creating havoc in the backfield and fueling a complete team performance that secured the shutout.

The Mighty Mites delivered an exciting back-and-forth contest before falling 18–12. The tone was set early when the defense forced a fumble, recovered by Jadon Stoltzfus to halt a Muhlenberg drive. In the second quarter, Lee Keppleyripped off a 35-yard run and then finished the drive with a 10-yard touchdown. Later in the fourth, Gabe Vincentpowered across the goal line from five yards out, giving the Panthers a late surge. Keppley’s speed stood out, while the defense hustled all game to keep things close. Though just short on the scoreboard, the Mighty Mites showed grit and promise in their season opener.

Sunday marked the start of CFA youth football action as the Northern Lebanon Vikings traveled to Lower Dauphin to face the Falcons. Each level of Viking football brought energy, grit, and standout performances in their season openers. Our Viking cheerleaders took the field for the first time this season as well,

The Viking Midget team opened its season with a commanding 34-6 victory over Lower Dauphin. Quarterback Markus Miller led an efficient opening drive, capped by a 12-yard touchdown run from Sam Kline. The offense continued to roll as Titus Feagley hauled in a 12-yard TD pass, Nolan Anspach added a 25-yard scoring reception, Luke Bennethumbroke free for a 40-yard run, and Luke Copenhaver punched in a 4-yard score. Bennethum was a two-way standout, rushing for 92 yards and piling up tackles, while the defensive front of Blayze Kimm, Greyson McQuade, Braden Kleinfelter, and Jacob Bomberger shut down the Falcons’ run game.

The Pony Vikings edged Lower Dauphin in a thriller, 7-6. Isaiah Stokrp powered in from 13 yards out for the lone Viking touchdown, and Beckett Wetzel added the decisive extra-point run. The defense stood tall late, with Brayden Appleton making a crucial open-field stop on the Falcons’ conversion attempt, and Liam Robertson sealing the victory with a clutch interception.

The Pee Wee Vikings showed promise despite a 20-0 setback. Grady Wiest connected on a pair of long passes to Ryder Barker, while the run game was paced by Brantley Bennethum, Shane Balmer, and Clayton Meyer. Defensively, twelve Vikings recorded tackles, led by Gable Monk’s four stops and a fumble recovery.

The Viking Smurfs brought their trademark energy to kick off the season in an exhibition matchup. Ezekiel Buchman, Brycen Bortz, and Mike Schumann controlled the line of scrimmage, paving the way for long gains from Cooper Wonderley, Trey Moyer, Hudson Royer, and Chance Dimond. On defense, Buchman and Bortz disrupted the Falcon backfield, with Wonderley and Willie Bryant adding key tackles.

Up Next: The Vikings now look ahead with momentum after a statement performance filled with grit, teamwork, and clutch plays on both sides of the ball when they return to action when they host Hershey on Sunday.

The Cougar Midgets opened their season against a strong Cumberland Valley squad, ultimately falling 32–6. With much of the roster comprised of 7th graders, the young group gained valuable experience against a tough opponent. After trailing 16–0 at halftime, the Cougars battled back with a fired-up third quarter, cutting the deficit to 16–6. While the Eagles answered with two more touchdowns, Palmyra showed resilience and toughness that will serve them well as the season progresses.

The Pony Cougars took control early and rolled to a 24–12 victory. No fewer than five different players contributed offensively, spreading the ball around and keeping the Eagle defense on its heels. Cumberland Valley rallied with a determined second half effort, but Palmyra’s balanced attack proved too much as the Ponies pulled away for the win.

In the Pee Wee matchup, the Cougars emerged with a thrilling 12–7 win. After a back-and-forth first half, both defenses stiffened to set up a tense finish. With just a minute remaining, the Eagles were threatening inside Cougar territory, but Palmyra’s defense dug deep and held firm, running out the clock to secure the victory in dramatic fashion.

The youngest Cougars—the Smurfs—showed tremendous growth in their opener. Though no score was kept, the group improved steadily throughout the contest, finding rhythm on offense and holding their ground against a physically larger Cumberland Valley squad.

Up Next: The Cougars host the Chambersburg Trojans on August 31st at Belair Field in Palmyra.
