Baseball: Local Teams Battling for LebCo Youth Legion Crown

The 68th season of the Lebanon County Youth Legion Baseball League is underway, with teams from Jonestown, Myerstown, Palmyra, and Conrad Weiser each vying for the top spot. Each team consists of players aged 13 – 16. Since its inception in 1949, Lebanon County Youth Legion has allowed hundreds of young players to hone their skills in the sport they love. The league is part of the larger Youth Legion Baseball, which for this age group is the largest in terms of players, teams, and leagues in the state of Pennsylvania.

Jonestown in the defending champion. They lead the overall title count, tied with Myerstown, each with 17 total first place finishes. Conrad Weiser has won the league four times, while Palmyra has claimed two titles. Listed below is a tally of all of the past league champions.

This year’s LebCo champion will compete in Eastern Regionals with other league champions July 20 – 24, and if successful there, will advance to the 8 team state championships in Homer City at the end of July.

The young players are being mentored by the following managers: Sam Bates (Jonestown), Joe Hayes (Myerstown), Tim Morgan (Palmyra), and David Ocepeck (Conrad Weiser).

The work of the league could not continue without the excellent job done by the Lebanon Valley Umpires’ Association, with assignor Jim Beidler, providing the umpires for the league. The umpires are both Legion and PIAA registered, giving them experience at a variety of levels.

With just a few regular season games remaining before they enter the postseason, we wish all of the teams the best as they continue their journey through these hot summer days.
