Meda Pulaski

The week of May 6th was an excellent one for Annville-Cleona Softball’s Meda Pulaski. On Thursday, the senior pitcher recorded her 400th career strikeout. Then, on May 11th, Pulaski led the Dutchmen to an upset victory over Solanco in the Lancaster Lebanon League Quarterfinals. In the playoff victory, she threw a complete seven-inning shutout while only allowing three hits and struck out seven. It was these performances that earned Pulaski the votes to make her the LebCo Female Athlete of the Week.

This season, “Meads” was impressive both when on the hill and when she was in the batter’s box. Used as the primary pitcher for Annville, she caused 152 batters to whiff over the first twenty-two games of the season. She did this while compiling an ERA of 2.80. At the plate, Pulaski batted .392 with nineteen RBI and two home runs.

In addition to being a spark for her team, she is also a leader. Coach Amber Rexrode said of Pulaski, “She has been a leader on this team all season, and a lot of the younger girls look up to her.”

Pulaski viewed her role fitting in with the goals of the team in helping everyone to “stay positive” while helping them win games. She went on to say that she likes to “have fun during the games”, while trying her “hardest”.

Her outstanding play helped to contribute to Annville going 16-4 in the regular season before picking up the win over Solanco in the Lancaster Lebanon League Playoffs. Unfortunately, their run came to an end this past Monday with a District 3 loss to Biglerville. However, Pulaski aided her team in celebrating many victories, and her influence on her younger teammates will have a profound influence for several years as they continue to win games in the future.

Pulaski will now move on to Penn State – Altoona, where she will be a member of the ROTC Air Force program while majoring in cyber security. She then hopes to move into a job where she can use her skills within the ranks of the USAF.

One thing to know about Pulaski is that she has the number thirty-six tattooed in Roman numerals on her pitching arm. Unfortunately, she was not able to wear her favorite number on her jersey, as the uniforms only went up to thirty. The number that Pulaski now permanently wears is significant to her as her mom’s favorite number is three and her dad’s favorite number was six. 

Clearly, Pulaski knows where she came from and will also apply the lessons learned as a member of the Annville-Cleona Softball Team to her life as she moves forward. Whereas she spent her varsity career helping her team, she now hopes to use her skills to defend our nation. We wish Meda all the best in reaching her goals.
