Palmyra 41, Berks Catholic 34 [OT]
Palmyra earned their spot in the championship game of the Fleetwood Tip Off Tournament after a dominating performance against the host team on Friday night. In the 1st half of this one, the Cougars again showed off how strong they are defensively. They limited Berks Catholic to just 6 points in the 1st quarter and then shut them out in the 2nd quarter. At the half, Palmyra led 13-6. Berks Catholic came out of the break and stormed back to tie it up at the end of the 3rd. The game would also be tied 31-31 at the end of regulation. In the extra period, Palmyra broke free and held their opponent in place. The Cougars hit key free throws to ice the win, going 6-6 in overtime.
With 13 points, Emma Sibbach led the Palmyra scoring. Mya Doster scored 12 and Keely Bowers scored 11 to join Sibbach in double figures.
Bowers was named the Tournament MVP, while Addi Salus was named to the All-Tournament team.

Lancaster Catholic 59, Cedar Crest 45
Cedar Crest earned a spot in the finals of their own Tip Off Tournament, facing Lancaster Catholic. The hope was that the Falcons could get the offense jumpstarted after an impressive defensive performance carried them to victory over Mechanicsburg on Friday evening. Unfortunately, Catholic’s offense is looking like it typically looks, and they put up 23 points in the 1st quarter, putting Crest in an early hole. The Falcons slowed them up in the 2nd quarter but still trailed by 19 at halftime. Cedar Crest would continue to battle and cut into Catholic’s lead in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, they could not get close enough and eventually lost.
The silver lining in this loss is that the offense clicked into place more than in previous games. Laci Lesher led with 11 points, while Allie Metzgar had 10 points. Kaila Francis also scored 9, as she found more opportunities to contribute in this game. Lesher, along with Megan Donley, were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Cedar Crest (2-2) will travel to Twin Valley on Tuesday.

Palmyra used a solid defensive effort, combined with a dynamic offense, to earn a dominant win over Fleetwood. The Cougars scored 21 and 16 in the first two quarters and only allowed a total of 8 points in the half. While Palmyra significantly slowed down their offense in the 2nd half, they still only gave up 8 points the rest of the game.
Addi Salus led Palmyra with 17 points, while Keely Bowers contributed 13 in the victorious effort.
Palmyra (2-0) is back in action on Saturday against Berks Catholic in the finals of the Fleetwood Tourney.

Cedar Crest 33, Mechanicsburg 18
Cedar Crest opened their Tip Off Tournament on Friday night, hosting Mechanicsburg in the first round. The Wildcats ran into issues early with the suffocating defense for which the Falcons are known. After scoring 5 points in the 1st quarter, Mechanicsburg was held scoreless in the 2nd. Leading 7-5 after that first frame, Cedar Crest was able to score 10 points to build a 17-5 lead by the half. The 2nd half was played much more evenly, with both teams limiting each other’s offensive opportunities. Cedar Crest took the 3rd quarter by a score of 4-3. The 4th quarter saw a bit more action, with Crest scoring 12 to Mechanicsburg’s 10.
Laci Lesher paced the Falcons in the 1st half, scoring 8 of her team-high 11 points. Allie Metzgarjoined Lesher in double-digits, scoring 10.
Cedar Crest (2-1) will play again on Saturday as they look to wrap up a tournament win over Lancaster Catholic.

Perk Valley 76, Lebanon 38
As part of a showcase of two of the top teams in Pennsylvania, Lebanon traveled to take on Perkiomen Valley, last year’s 6A District 1 Champion. Perk Valley came out firing on all cylinders in this one, looking to already be in midseason form. What compounded the issues for Lebanon was that they were without key starter Olive Brandt who was still in concussion protocol following an injury sustained in their victory against Manheim Central to begin the season.
Perk Valley jumped out to a 25-10 lead in the 1st quarter, with Kailah Correa scoring 9 points, doing everything she could to keep Lebanon in the game. The 2nd quarter would not be played as closely, as the hosts sprinted out to a 45-14 halftime lead. Correa scored 10 points in the 2nd half, ending the game with 21, but Perk Valley ultimately proved to be too much at this juncture.
Lebanon (1-1) will look to get back into the win column when they host Governor Mifflin on Tuesday.
Lebanon Scoring: K. Correa (21); Z. Whigham (7); L. Harrison (5); J. Burrus (3); L. Hernandez (2)
Millersburg 53, Annville-Cleona 49
Annville-Cleona hosted Millersburg for their home opener. The visitors got out to a fast start, building a 17-7 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Playing from behind, the Dutchmen would hang with Millersburg in the 2nd quarter, scoring 14 points behind a balanced attack to make the score 30-21 at the half. Still trailing by 9, Annville used the 3rd quarter to chip away further, making the score 38-33 behind Ava Hoover’s 12-point quarter. In the 4th, Annville again made it a little closer, but in the end, could only get it to within 4 points.
Hoover led Annville with her 12 points.
Annville (1-3) will travel to take on Oley Valley on Tuesday evening.
AC Scoring: A. Hoover (12); K. Cooper; L. Sanchez (9); A. Sellers (8); O. Viozzi (7); A. Shaak (3)

Northern Lebanon 39, Red Land 31
The Vikings took to the road for their second game of the season after winning their first game in a 54-15 rout of Kutztown on Tuesday evening. Tonight’s opponent, Red Land, entered the game with a 1-1 record after defeating E-Town and then losing to McCaskey in tournament action last weekend. Red Land found out early in this one that Northern Lebanon prides itself on defense, as they were held to just 8 points in the 1st half. On the other hand, the Vikings scored 22, with 7 in the 1st quarter and 15 in the 2nd quarter. The Patriots struck back in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Northern Lebanon 15-10 to make it a 9-point game heading into the final frame. The Vikings were able to stop any thoughts of a comeback by limiting any further damage to hold on for the victory.
Northern Lebanon was led in the scoring department with 14 points by Olivia Shutter. Hayley Sheroky and Kasey Weimer each scored 10 points.
The Vikings (2-0) are in action again on Monday night at home against Schuylkill Valley.

The Palmyra Girls hosted Muhlenberg to kick off their season. Defense was the name of the game early, as the Cougars built a 10-3 lead by the end of the 1st quarter and did not allow a field goal. While Muhlenberg began to hit some shots, Palmyra continued to outpace the visitors by a score of 21-12 at the half. Keely Bowers led the scoring with 8 points at the break. Palmyra continued its solid play in the 3rd quarter, holding Muhlenberg to just 5 points on their way to a 15-point victory. Bowers scored 11 points in the 2nd half, totaling 19 for the game. Palmyra Scoring: K. Bowers (19); A. Salus (14); E. Ancharski (4); M. Doster (3); M. Sibbach (2); M. Margut (2)
Wilson 59, Cedar Crest 46
Cedar Crest traveled to play Wilson on Tuesday night for their second game of the season. The Falcons fell behind early in this one and trailed 15-4 after the 1st quarter. They would not be able to overcome the deficit despite showing much more of an ability to score in the final three quarters. In fact, Cedar Crest actually outscored Wilson 30-25 in the 2nd half, despite the hosts leaving in their starters.
Allie Metzgar led Crest with 20 points while drilling five three-pointers. Laci Lesher finished the game with 10 points.
Cedar Crest (1-1) will host Mechanicsburg on Friday evening.
CC Scoring: A. Metzgar (20); L. Lesher (10); K. Francis (8); M. Donley (6); L. Lowe (1); L. Thomas (1)
ELCO 49, Pottsville 45
Coming off of their victory at the Hamburg Tip Off Tournament, the Raiders traveled to play Pottsville in their home gym, historic Martz Hall. This one was a back-and-forth affair with lead changes throughout. Early on, it looked like it was going to be all ELCO, but Pottsville stormed back, holding the visitors to only 2 points in the 2nd quarter. After leading 14-6 after the one quarter, ELCO found themselves down 27-16 at halftime. In the 3rd quarter, the Raiders recovered and outscored Pottsville 19-4 to take a 35-30 lead into the 4th. Tied at 45 a piece with less than a minute left to play, sophomore Kenzie Eckhart put ELCO ahead for good. Eckhart and senior Makenna Seifert led ELCO in scoring, each with 13 points. Senior point guard Sara Miller scored 4 of her 6 points in the decisive 4th quarter.
Overall, this gutsy win was the product of a mix of the younger players and the upperclassmen coming together to leave one of the most famous basketball venues in Pennsylvania with a victory.
ELCO (3-0) will have off until next Tuesday when they will travel to Hamburg.
ELCO Scoring: K. Eckhart (13); M. Seifert (13); R. Woelfling (8); M. Stout (7); S. Miller (6); G. Smith (2)

The strong defense continued into the 2nd quarter, and Northern Lebanon led 42-6 at the half. The large lead gave Coach Battistelli to give more players the chance to see varsity minutes in the 2nd half of the game. Olivia Shutter led the team in scoring with 13 points, which included two three-pointers.
The Vikings (1-0) travel to Red Land on Thursday evening.
NL Scoring: O. Shutter (13), H. Sheroky (9), K. Weimer (9), M. Miller (9), S. Phillips (4), L. Harris (4), K. Harman (4), A. Kubica (2)

Annville lost a little ground in the 2nd quarter and went into halftime trailing 20-15. Unfortunately, Upper Dauphin came out in the 3rd and built to their lead after outscoring Annville 19-5. Going into the 4th quarter, Annville trailed 39-20. While they continued to battle, the deficit was too great despite cutting into the lead before the final buzzer.
Cooper finished the game with a team-high 14 points.
The Dutchmen (1-2) will host Millersburg on Friday night.
