Last week, ELCO Field Hockey was named as our Team of the Week. This week, our readers have selected one of the main reasons that the Raiders have won eleven straight games and are quickly moving up in the District 3 Power Rankings.
Sophomore Addie Weiler scored 4 goals and added 3 assists over the course of three ELCO wins. Overall, she has scored 21 goals and has assisted on 7 others, including scoring a goal in last night’s key win over Section 3 rival Garden Spot.
Weiler shared with LebCoSports.com that she is proud of her teammates and the team effort that has led to the season that they have been having. She is hopeful that they can continue to develop the cohesion needed to not only win Section 3, but also make a run at the District 3 Championship on their way to earning a spot in the PIAA State Playoffs. Personally, she has made it a goal to be named as a 1st Team Section 3 All-Star.
Besides her teammates, Weiler wanted to thank her mother, along with the ELCO coaching staff.
When asked about Weiler, Coach Thorley said, “Addie continues to be a force on the frontline, constantly causing good chaos in the circle. She has a great hockey IQ and works very hard. She collects the ball well on rebounds and can find space around the keeper. She is scrappy and relentless and carries the ball well.”
While the offensive prowess possessed by Weiler is something that sticks out, Coach Thorley is quick to also point out her young leader’s role in the overall defensive efforts of her team, saying, “She plays great first line of defense and always gives hard second effort on the play.”
While Field Hockey is Weiler’s only sport, playing club hockey year-round, it is not her only activity. She is involved in ELCO’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) Club. She is not only a member, but she is an officer who will be speaking at the National FFA Conference this November in Indianapolis.
Since she’s only in 10th grade, she has time to decide on her future plans, but we wish her the best of luck with the rest of this season.
