Boys Wrestling: At Sectionals, Local Wrestlers Win Thirty Medals, Four Gold – Full LebCo Results

On Saturday, Boys Wrestling teams from across Central Pennsylvania took part in the District 3 Sectional round of the postseason. The six LebCo teams were spread out across three sites, depending on classification and placement. When all of the wrestling was complete, thirty local wrestlers returned home with medals. Four of those medalists earned Section Championships. There were twenty LebCo wrestlers who qualified for the next round.

Below is a team-by-team breakdown of who medaled, along with how their days progressed. It is also indicated if they have qualified for the next round.

The postseason takes a different path for the next round, depending on the AA/AAA classification. Annville-Cleona and Northern Lebanon will take part in the AA District 3 Championships, while the AAA wrestlers will move on to the South Central Regionals. Both events take place next weekend.

District 3 AA – Section 2

The AA District 3 – Section 2 Championship took place at Central Dauphin High School following a late venue change. The change of location from CD East, but a security issue led to the move. Seventeen AA teams took part in the event, including Annville-Cleona and Northern Lebanon. The Vikings finished 4th overall, claiming three gold medals that were won by Aaron Seidel, Samuel Wolford, and Karter Adams. The team championship was won by Bishop McDevitt. The top six wrestlers from each weight class will now move onto the AA District 3 Championships next weekend.

 

Annville-Cleona

The Dutchmen earned six medals as a team and will advance four of its wrestlers to Districts next weekend.

Team Finish: 9th

3rd   Darrian Holloway* (215 pounds) – The senior won his first match with a pin, but then lost his next match. He then pinned his next opponent to earn his spot in the 3rd place match. Holloway pinned Tulpehocken’s Alexander Klonis to earn 3rd place. Holloway’s season record is 15-11. (this was an update, as the original results showed Holloway losing the final match)

5th   Oliver Funck* (121 pounds) – The sophomore went 4-2 on the day on his way to earning a 5th place. In the medal round, Funck won an 8-6 decision over Jacob Greiss of Brandywine Heights. He now has a 23-14 record for the season.

5th   Liam Pulaski* (145 pounds) – The senior went 4-2, including pinning Berks Catholic’s Gabriel Iswalt to earn 5th place. Pulaski’s season record is now 17-17.

6th   Damien Miller* (285 pounds) – The senior lost his first match, but then pinned two straight opponents to pull back into medal contention. After losing in the consolation semis, Miller was defeated by Northern Lebanon’s Hayden Adams in the medal round. His record for the season is 18-12

7th   Oliver Carey (152 pounds) – The senior started his day with a 15-0 tech fall victory. Carey then lost, won, and lost again to get placed into the 7th place match. In the medal round, Carey pinned Kutztown’s Tyler Scarola. Carey’s season record is 12-17 after going 3-2 in this tournament.

7th   Jonathan Moran (160 pounds) – The sophomore went 2-2 in his first four matches to earn his spot in the medal round. Moran then pinned Northern Lebanon’s Vincent Battistelli, defeating the Viking grappler for the second time in the same tournament. With a 3-2 record, Moran improved his record to 15-20.

Northern Lebanon

The Vikings had four wrestlers make it into the Finals, with Aaron Seidel, Sam Wolford, and Karter Adams each taking the top spot on the podium. In total, Northern Lebanon earned nine medals and will advance seven wrestlers to Districts.

Team Finish: 4th

1st   Aaron Seidel* (121 pounds) – The junior two-time State Champion won all three matches on his way to gold. In the opening round, he quickly pinned his opponent from Conrad Weiser. In the semifinals, Seidel notched 1 16-0 tech fall over a wrestler from Berks Catholic. In the finals, Seidel again won via a tech fall, this time scoring 22-5 over Greyson Music, an Annville native now wrestling for Bishop McDevitt. Seidel is now 42-1 this season, with his only loss coming to a wrestler from New Jersey.

1st   Samuel Wolford* (107 pounds) – The sophomore finished with a silver medal at Sectionals last year on his way to making States. This year, he has already added another gold to his collection as he keeps pace to climb high on the podium in Hershey. To win this event, he put in his work against his opponents from Middletown, McDevitt, and Tulpehocken, winning each match with a tech fall. Wolford is now 35-4 this season. The win in the finals marked his 80th career varsity victory.

1st   Karter Adams* (127 pounds) – The sophomore started his day with a 13-2 major decision victory. He then earned a 7-1 decision over his opponent from Conrad Weiser in the semifinals. In the gold medal round, Adams won a 4-2 decision over McDevitt’s Liam Lawler. Adams is now 31-9 this season.

2nd   Julian Zaragoza* (114 pounds) – The senior won his first match of the day with a 13-1 major decision over his opponent from Tulpehocken. He followed it up with a 15-0 tech fall in semifinals against his counterpart from Oley Valley. In the finals, Zaragoza could not find enough points to overcome an early takedown and lost a 3-1 decision to McDevitt’s Zane Crouse. Zaragoza is now 33-11 this season.

3rd   Tanner Feagley* (189 pounds) – The senior won his quarterfinals match with a pin, but then lost in the semifinals to Lancaster Catholic’s Zachary Dresch in the semifinals. A determined Feagley picked up a quick :35 pin in consolations to earn his spot in the 3rd place match. He then scored a 3-2 decision with a late takedown of Wyomissing’s Tyler Niedrowski. Earning bronze, Feagley improved his season record to 34-10.

5th   Hayden Adams* (285 pounds) – The junior heavyweight won his first match, but then lost in the quarterfinals before reeling off two straight wins in consolation matches. Another loss put him in the 5th place match, where he defeated Annville’s Damien Miller with a late escape to earn the 3-2 victory. After going 4-2 at this event, Adams is now 31-15 on the season.

6th   Eli Ostermayer* (172 pounds) – The senior started his day with victory, but then lost in the quarterfinals. He then picked up two straight pins in consolations before ending the tournament with two tough losses, earning him a 6th place medal. Going 3-3, Ostermayer is now 20-17 for the season.

7th   Sincere Perez (145 pounds) – The sophomore went 2-2 in his first four bouts to get into the 7th place match. In the medal round, Perez scored three points on a nearfall in the third period to pick up a 4-2 victory of Middletown’s Jonathan Tlumach. The 3-2 day ran Perez’s record to 9-14 for the season.

8th   Vincent Battistelli (160 pounds) – The junior picked up a win over a wrestler from Hamburg on his way to earning an 8th place medal. Going 1-3 on the day, Battistelli now holds a 15-25 record for the season.

Lancaster League Wrestling Championship Results





 

 

District 3 AAA – Section 1

The AAA District 3 – Section 1 Championship took place at Governor Mifflin Intermediate School. Of the fifteen teams, three of them were from LebCo. Led by the Miller brothers, ELCO was the highest local team finisher coming in 6th. Overall, it was Wilson who took home top honors. The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to next weekend’s South Central Regional Championships.

Cedar Crest

The Falcons earned two medals at the Section 1 tournament, with Landyn Kline earning qualification to the Regional Championships.

Team Finish: 14th

4th   Landyn Kline* (189 pounds) – The sophomore started the day by pinning his opponent from Wilson. He then lost in the semifinals before winning in consolations with an 8-3 decision. In 3rd Place match, Kline lost an 11-6 decision to Wilson’s Ethan Brownback. Kline’s season record is now 23-13.

5th   Lucas Gerrett (152 pounds) – The senior won his first match with a pin, but then lost in the quarterfinals with a 3-0 decision. Gerrett then won his next two consolation matches before a loss put him in the 5th Place match. In the medal round, he one again found victory, pinning Daniel Boone’s Ryan Poore in 2:40. Gerrett finished the day with a 4-2 record to put his season record at 26-13.

ELCO

The Raiders earned six medals on the day and qualified four wrestlers for Regionals. The day was highlighted by Klint Miller’s gold medal and his brother Kyle’s silver medal-winning performance. However, one disappointing piece of news concerned Ashton Kriss, a 2023 State qualifier, as he could not compete due to not making weight.

Team Finish: 6th

1st   Klint Miller* (152 pounds) – The freshman ripped through the field, earning pins in his first two matches to make it to the Championship Finals. In the gold medal round, Miller earned a 4-2 decision to defeat Wilson’s Matteo Garcia. Miller’s season record is now 33-9.

2nd   Kyle Miller* (215 pounds) – The junior won his first match with a 17-3 major decision. He then won his second match with a 9-6 decision to earn his spot in the Finals. In the Championship, Miller was defeated by Wilson’s Ryan McMillan, the defending Section champ. Miller earned silver and now holds a season record of 30-8

4th   Zane Trostle* (127 pounds) – The junior won two of his first three matches to earn his spot in the 3rd place match. In the medal round, he lost to Governor Mifflin’s Anthony Montegari via a pin at the 3:55 mark. Trostle is now 22-8 this season.

4th   Mitchell Frederick* (160 pounds) – The junior started his day with a 14-4 major decision over his opponent from Cocalico. He then lost a decision before rebounding with another major decision to land in the 3rd place match. He fought hard in the medal round, but lost a major decision to Ephrata’s Quincy Myer. Going 2-2 on the day, Frederick’s season record now stands at 25-12.

6th   Wesley Doll (107 pounds) – The senior lost his first match on a 15-0 tech fall, but rebounded to pin his next opponent. The win kept him alive in the consolation round, where he lost his next match-up, but was able to make it into the 5th place match. In the medal round, Doll lost a major decision to Wilson’s Trevor Hertzog. Doll’s season record is 10-11.

6th   David Nelson (172 pounds) – The junior started the tournament with a win by way of a 10-4 decision. He then lost his next match, but won two straight in consolations before losing and ending in the 5th place match. In the medal round, Nelson was pinned by Garden Spot’s Jayden Redcay. Nelson’s season record is 15-16.

Lebanon

The Cedars did not medal, but did have a highlight with senior Corbett Brickle pinning his opponent from Reading.

District 3 AAA – Section 2

The AAA District 3 – Section 2 Championship took place at Hempfield High School. Of the fifteen teams, Palmyra was the lone LebCo representative. The top four finishers from each weight class advancing to the South Central Regional Championships next weekend. Central Dauphin took home honors as the top team, while Palmyra finished 8th and will be sending four wrestlers to the next round.

 

Palmyra

The Cougars brought home seven medals, highlighted by the gold medal performance put forth by Mason Bucks. The team will be sending four to Regionals.

Team Finish: 8th

1st   Mason Bucks* (172 pounds) – The senior defeated wrestlers from McCaskey and Warwick to earn his spot in the finals. In the championship round, Bucks scored a 7-2 decision over Manheim Township’s Leighton Underwood to earn gold. Bucks is now 23-5 this season.

2nd   Joshua Smith* (127 pounds) – The senior pinned his opponent from Central Dauphin and then notched a 15-0 tech fall over his challenger from Penn Manor. The two wins earned him a spot in the finals where he lost to Elizabethtown’s Francis Burke, the LL Champion with an undefeated record. Smith earned silver and improved his season record to 17-10.

4th   Jason Foutz* (107 pounds) – The junior won his first match by pinning his opponent from Warwick before a loss in the semifinals to eventual champion Thunder Beard of Central Dauphin. A 13-7 decision in the consolation round that followed put him into the 3rd place match. In the medal round, Foutz lost to Solanco’s Caden Rutt. Foutz went 2-2 to earn 4th, improving his season record to 24-7.

4th   Tyler Detwiler* (121 pounds) – The sophomore started his day with two wins before a loss in the semifinals. Detwiler then won a 6-0 decision over Hempfield’s Brady Deck to qualify for the 3rd place match. In the medal round, he scored two takedowns of Penn Manor’s Gavin Boland, but lost 6-4. Earning 4th after going 3-2, Detwiler moved his season record to 10-5.

5th   Aaron Andrew  (152 pounds) – The sophomore came in 5th in the Section in 2023 and repeated that performance this year. After losing in the opening round, Andrew picked up wins by way of a tech fall and a pin. He then lost in the consolation semifinals and earned his spot in the medal round. In the 5th place match, Andrew was dominate, picking up a 16-0 tech fall to defeat Manheim Central’s Bradyn Linder. With his 3-2 day, Andrew improved to 15-8 for the season.

6th   Stephen Stine (139 pounds) – The senior pinned opponents from Warwick and Lampeter-Strasburg to begin the tournament. He then lost in the semifinals and in consolations. In the 5th place match, Stine lost a 4-0 decision to Donegal’s Benyamin Viselli. With his 6th place medal, Stine moved his overall season record to 14-14.

6th   Xavier Smith (215 pounds) – The freshman started his day by pinning E-Town’s Tobias Stoneking. After a second-round loss, Smith went on to win two straight matches. He finished his day with two losses but made the podium with a 6th place medal. Smith’s season record moved to 12-15.
