Dutchmen Use 5th-Inning Rally to Pull Away from Octorara

Annville-Cleona entered Monday’s home matchup against Octorara looking to stop a 3-game losing streak and bring some momentum into the final stretch of the regular season. After falling to the Braves 10-7 earlier this spring, the Dutchmen found themselves in another tight battle before a big 5th inning flipped the game on its way to a 9-3 win.

Anna Pacewicz put Annville-Cleona on the board in the 2nd, singling home a run to give the Dutchmen an early 1-0 lead. Octorara answered in the top of the 5th, using RBI singles from Allison Matys and Julianna Wood to move in front 3-1.

The Dutchmen responded immediately in the bottom half of the 5th. After an error brought home 2 runs, Summer Lightdoubled to drive in another before Temperance Brubaker singled home 2 more, turning the 2-run deficit into a 6-3 Annville-Cleona lead.

Annville-Cleona added 3 more runs in the 6th to create separation, with the Dutchmen continuing to apply pressure while taking advantage of their chances at the plate. Pacewicz led the offense from the No. 7 spot in the lineup, going 3-4 with 3 RBI.

In the circle, Brubaker worked through traffic while giving the Dutchmen a complete-game effort. She allowed 10 hits and 3 runs, only 1 earned, across 7.0 innings while striking out 8 and walking 3.

For Octorara, Leyahna Stafford, Presley Lazos, and Matys each finished with 2 hits, while Matys and Wood drove in runs. The Braves also turned a double play defensively.

The Dutchmen improved to 8-8 with the win. Annville-Cleona has 3 games remaining, beginning Tuesday with a road matchup against Northern Lebanon.
