Raider Girls Basketball Season Outlook
Last season, the Raiders finished with an even 11-11 record after coming on strong with wins in five of their last seven contests. Unfortunately, it was not enough, as they fell just one spot short of qualifying for the District 3 Playoffs. Following the season, ELCO graduated a solid senior class full of leaders. That said, there is a strong foundation as this ELCO team takes the court to start the ’23-’24 season. They are led by their point guard Sara Miller, who, as a three-year starter, offers leadership and court awareness that paces them in games. While Miller has the ability to score herself, she is happy to pass the ball to the many scoring options that Coach Keath has on the floor at any given moment. Maddie Stout is coming off of a solid freshman campaign where she averaged 7.5 points per game, often delivering from long-range. Another sophomore, Kenzie Eckhart, is looking to transition into her role as a key contributor and has the talent to do so. Senior Makenna Seifert is yet another scoring threat with experience. Add junior Reece Woelfling to the offensive options, and the Raiders will be tough for other teams to contain this season. With the development of this entire group of athletes being on full display with last year’s late-season run, the Raiders will, without a doubt, be part of the postseason conversation when the calendar hits February.
At the time of this article being written, the Raiders are fresh off of their championship at the Hamburg Tip Off Tournament. Over the course of two games, ELCO looked to be in mid-season form as they defeated Annville and Hamburg. Eckhart and Seifert picked up all-tournament honors for their outstanding performances.
One additional item to note is that ELCO will have the opportunity to play their December 18th game against Wyomissing at the Wells Fargo Center prior to the Sixers-Bulls playing that evening.
