This part of the season for wrestling gets a little confusing as AA and AAA schools take different paths to the PIAA State Championships. This weekend, AA schools Annville-Cleona and Northern Lebanon traveled to Central Dauphin East to take part in the District 3 Championships. Their large school, AAA counterparts were at Spring Grove to compete at the South Central Regional Championships, which is the final step prior to States. The AA schools will have their Regional Championships next weekend.
When all of the wrestling was done this weekend, there were nine Lebanon County wrestlers who extended their seasons through impressive performances. Among those were Lebanon’s Griffin Gonzalez and ELCO’s Ashton Kriss who punched their tickets to Hershey where they will compete at the PIAA State Championship. At the District 3 Championship, Northern Lebanon’s Aaron Seidel extended his record to 41-0 en route to winning gold for the second straight year (he’s only a sophomore). Seidel will lead a very large Viking contingent into next weekend’s Regional tournament.
AAA – Regionals
The PIAA South Central Regional Tournament was held on Friday and Saturday at Spring Grove. Wrestlers from fifty-two teams, who qualified at last week’s Sectional tournaments, were in attendance.
