Waldron Leads Palmyra’s Medal Push at Mid Penn Championships
The Mid Penn Conference Track & Field Championships brought 30 teams to the Edwin H. Sponseller Track & Field Complex at Chambersburg on Saturday, with top-eight finishers in each event earning medals. For Palmyra, the championship meet produced 9 medal-winning performances, led by junior Maddy Waldron, who raced to a pair of individual silver medals in the sprints and helped the Cougars add another runner-up finish in the girls 4x100m Relay.
The Palmyra girls collected five medals, highlighted by Waldron’s 2nd-place finishes in both the 100m and 200m, a 2nd-place finish from Abbie Vates in the javelin, a 2nd-place finish from the girls 4x100m Relay, and an 8th-place finish from Isabella Owens in the long jump.
On the boys side, Palmyra added four medal-winning efforts. Travis McDannell placed 8th in the 200m, the Cougars finished 4th in the 4x100m Relay and 7th in the 4x800m Relay, and Josh Tshudy placed 7th in the discus.
Girls Recap
Maddy Waldron led the way for the Palmyra girls, earning two individual silver medals in the sprints. Waldron finished 2nd in the 100m with a time of 12.39, then came back to place 2nd in the 200m in 25.29.
The Cougars also showed their sprint depth in the 4x100m Relay, where Waldon was a member of the Palmyra team that finished 2nd in 49.84 behind along with teammates Mariah Dupree, Emily Bearinger, and Allie Fink. Chambersburg won the event in 49.52.
In the throws, Abbie Vates produced one of Palmyra’s top field-event performances of the day, taking 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 112’5″. Ashton Brandt also gave Palmyra a strong javelin mark, finishing 13th at 98’8″.
Isabella Owens added another medal for the Cougars in the long jump, placing 8th with a leap of 15’9″. Owens also competed in the triple jump, where she finished 21st at 30’4.5″.
Palmyra also had a number of athletes gain valuable championship-meet experience across the track. Amber McCurdyplaced 11th in the 1600m (5:27.64) and 13th in the 800m (2:27.14), while Chelsea Herr ran both distance events as well. In the hurdles, Izzy Weber was Palmyra’s top finisher in the 300m Hurdles, taking 12th in 49.51.
Beyond Palmyra, several athletes turned in major multi-medal performances. Cumberland Valley’s Vanessa Grazianoswept the girls 100m (12.14) and 200m (24.56) titles, while Carlisle’s Ana Bondy doubled in the 800m (2:15.07) and 1600m (5:06.71). Milton Hershey’s Lucille Heuermann also had a huge day in the field, winning both the pole vault (11’7″) and javelin (120’0″).
Hershey also had several top-end performances throughout the girls meet. Evelyn Winder won the 3200m (11:11.37), Sophia Kim placed 2nd in the 1600m (5:08.62), and Lauren Nutt finished 4th in the 3200m (11:40.09), giving the Trojans a strong distance showing.

Boys Recap
For the Palmyra boys, the relay groups turned in the strongest medal-winning performances of the day.
The Cougars’ 4x100m Relay finished 4th in 43.42 behind the team of Chris Campisano, Connor Anderson, Aaron Villafane, and Travis McDannell, putting Palmyra in the middle of a tight sprint-relay field. Greencastle-Antrim won the race in 42.89, while East Pennsboro (43.26) and Cumberland Valley (43.38) also finished ahead of the Cougars.
Palmyra also medaled in the 4x800m Relay, placing 7th in 8:20.06 behind the team of Joshua Miller, Nathan Keiner, Landyn Rose, and Cornelius Cummings. Miller opened in 2:03.35, Keiner followed in 2:05.89 to bring the Cougars through 4:09.23, Rose ran the third leg in 2:03.22 to reach 6:12.44, and Cummings closed in 2:07.63. The event was won by Milton Hershey in 8:00.72.
Individually, McDannell earned a medal in the 200m, finishing 8th in 22.65. McDannell also ran the 100m prelims, placing 19th in 11.41. Anderson added a 14th-place finish in the 200m (23.08) and was also part of Palmyra’s sprint group in the 100m prelims.
In the field, Josh Tshudy delivered Palmyra’s top boys field-event medal, placing 7th in the discus with a throw of 147’7″. Tshudy also competed in the shot put, finishing 13th at 42’5.5″.
Palmyra also had several athletes finish just outside the medal range, including Miller in the 3200m (13th, 10:02.92), Cummings in the 1600m (16th, 4:33.17), Evan Mosser in the triple jump (14th, 40’5″), and Jaxton Barger in the long jump (18th, 19’2.25″).
Around the rest of the meet, Hershey’s Jake Weiler-Timmins delivered one of the day’s top performances, sweeping the boys 100m (10.88) and 200m (21.69) titles. Chambersburg’s Okenie McLaughlin also doubled in the jumps, winning both the long jump (23’0″) and triple jump (46’11.5″), while Shippensburg’s Ayden Foust won the discus (163’2″) and placed 2nd in the shot put (52’1.25″).
Hershey had additional top-end efforts from Drew Grana, who placed 4th in the 110m Hurdles (15.38) and 5th in the high jump (6’1″), and Grant Liszka, who finished 6th in the 1600m (4:25.98). The Trojans also medaled in both the 4x100m Relay (8th, 43.80) and 4x800m Relay (4th, 8:05.64).
