Cougars Bounce Back, Roll Past Gettysburg to Complete Season Sweep

After defeating Gettysburg 17-4 last Tuesday, the Palmyra girls lacrosse team had plenty of time to rest and prepare for the final stretch of the regular season. That closing run began Tuesday night with a road trip to rival Hershey, where the Cougars picked up right where they left off with a commanding 17-5 win.

Ava Lantz powered the Palmyra offense with another huge performance, scoring 8 goals and adding 2 assists to lead the Cougars. Ella Detwiler also played a major role in the attack, scoring 2 goals while distributing 7 assists to keep Palmyra’s offense moving throughout the night.

The Cougars also received balanced production from several other contributors. Eloise Frailey and Grace Frew each scored 2 goals, while Megan Isett added 1 goal and 2 assists. Bella Kenes and Myka Lechleitner each added a goal as Palmyra continued to spread the scoring around behind its top offensive leaders.

On the defensive end, Brecken Benasutti helped set the tone with 3 caused turnovers and 3 ground balls, while Claire Busher added 1 caused turnover and 5 ground balls. In goal, Savannah Epler finished with 8 saves to help the Cougars limit Hershey’s opportunities.

Palmyra also made it a boys-girls sweep over Hershey on Tuesday, as the Cougar boys lacrosse team defeated the Trojans 15-2 to improve their season record to 11-6.

Palmyra (12-4) will host Red Land on Thursday before finishing the regular season Monday on the road at Bishop McDevitt.
