Cedar Crest entered the District 3 Playoffs already having put together one of the best seasons in program history. After finishing the regular season 14-4 and qualifying for Districts for just the 2nd time, the Falcons earned the #6 seed in the 3A bracket and welcomed #11 Governor Mifflin to Lebanon Valley College on Friday night.
Once there, Cedar Crest made the opportunity count, defeating Governor Mifflin 14-10 to earn the first District 3 Playoff victory in program history.
At the center of the historic win was Addi Davis, who delivered one of the most complete performances of the Falcons’ season. Known for the defensive presence she brings to the field, Davis made a major impact on both ends against Governor Mifflin, finishing with 3 goals and 1 assist while also helping set the tone defensively as Cedar Crest held off the Mustangs’ attack.
Davis was not alone in powering the offense, as Avery Lechleitner, Samantha Brown, and Bella Paquette each scored 3 goals for Cedar Crest. Lechleitner and Paquette also helped keep the Falcon offense moving with 3 assists apiece, giving Cedar Crest the balance it needed to stay in control throughout a competitive postseason matchup.
Olivia Ryland and Alex Jones each added 1 goal, giving the Falcons 6 different scorers on the night. With Cedar Crest generating 31 shots, the Falcons were able to keep pressure on Governor Mifflin while answering each push the Mustangs made.
On the defensive end, Davis helped anchor a Cedar Crest unit that had to work against a Governor Mifflin team that put 22 shots on goal. Behind that effort, Vi Bierman came through with 12 saves in cage, helping the Falcons protect their lead and close out the program-defining victory.
Governor Mifflin was led by Strickler, who scored 3 goals, while Manzueta, Mollura, and Cuccaro each scored 2.
With the win, Cedar Crest improved to 15-4 and extended its historic season at least 1 more round. The Falcons will now face #3 Wilson on Tuesday in the District 3 quarterfinals, with a trip to the semifinals and a guaranteed spot in the state tournament on the line.
In other news, Lebanon County’s other District 3 qualifier, Palmyra, saw its impressive season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion with a 9-8 loss to Dallastown. The Cougars were led by Ava Lantz, who scored 4 goals, while Ella Detwiler added 1 goal and 2 assists. Lily Ferretti, Grace Frew, and Megan Isett each scored 1, and Savannah Epler made 11 saves in goal. Palmyra finished the season with a 14-5 record, a major step forward for a program that went 6-12 just one year ago.
