Strohecker, Cougars Power Past Gettysburg to Clinch Keystone Division Crown

Palmyra entered Tuesday night’s home game against Gettysburg with a chance to accomplish two major goals: further solidify its spot near the top of the District 3 power rankings and clinch a second straight Mid Penn Keystone Division championship. Behind a power-filled offensive performance, the Cougars took care of both, defeating the Warriors 16-7.

Strohecker drove in four runs on three hits, starting his night with a two-run home run to left field in the 2nd. Nolan Bown followed later in the inning with an RBI single, helping Palmyra jump out to a 3-0 lead.

After Gettysburg answered with two runs in the 3rd, Jesse Willi gave the Cougars more breathing room in the bottom half, launching a three-run home run to left field on the sixth pitch of the at-bat to push Palmyra’s lead to 6-2.

The Cougars kept the pressure on from there, adding three more runs in the 4th before putting the game further out of reach with a five-run 5th. In that inning, Matthew Eldridge hit a sacrifice fly, Ezra Good doubled in two runs, Strohecker singled in another, and Logan Kriner added an RBI single.

Palmyra added two more runs in the 6th, as Aidan Willard and Eldridge each homered to help close out the victory. The Cougars finished with fifteen hits, with Bown and Strohecker each collecting three. Eldridge drove in four runs, while Willi added three RBI.

On the mound, Nate Holt earned the win for Palmyra. The left-hander allowed six hits and four runs, three earned, over 3.0 innings while striking out two and walking one. Max Woodley gave the Cougars 1.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit while striking out two.

Gettysburg finished with nine hits and continued to battle throughout the game. Austin Keller and Esteban Mac each had two hits and two RBI, while Charlie Shull reached base three times and drove in a run.

The Keystone Champion Cougars improved to 17-1 with two regular season games remaining. Palmyra will host Red Land on Thursday before traveling to face CD East on Monday.
