ELCO Offense Powers Raiders Past Wyomissing for 10th Win

ELCO entered Friday’s non-league matchup against Wyomissing looking to finish the week on a strong note. After defeating Cocalico on Monday, the Raiders had a chance to pick up their second win of the week while also reaching double digits in the win column.

With their offense on full display, ELCO did exactly that, piling up 15 hits and using two big middle innings to defeat Wyomissing 14-9.

The Spartans jumped ahead in the top of the 1st, scoring three runs after Caris Way singled down the left-field line, Kylie Schoedler grounded out, and Addison Lecher drew a bases-loaded walk.

ELCO answered right back in the bottom half of the 1st. Chloe Shirk doubled to help get the Raiders going, while Justine Geyer and Layla Werner each drove in runs on groundouts to tie the game at 3-3.

Wyomissing briefly moved back in front in the 3rd when Taylor Watts singled to make it 4-3, but ELCO quickly flipped the game in the bottom half of the inning. Justine Geyer delivered a two-run double before Layla Werner followed with an RBI single, giving the Raiders a 6-4 lead.

The biggest swing came in the bottom of the 4th, when ELCO scored six runs on five hits to take control. Chloe Shirksingled in a run, Justine Geyer drove in another with a groundout, Layla Werner added an RBI single, and Abigail Ruth capped the inning with a run-scoring single as the Raiders stretched their lead to 12-4.

Makayla Noll earned the win in the circle for ELCO, going all 7.0 innings while allowing seven hits and nine runs, five earned. She struck out three and walked six while helping the Raiders finish off a high-scoring victory.

ELCO’s lineup had production throughout the order. Layla Werner went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Chloe Shirk finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs. Justine Geyer drove in a team-high four runs and went 2-for-4 with a double, while Kylie Cruz, Makayla Noll, and Abigail Ruth each collected multiple hits.

For Wyomissing, Eva Ramos-Rauenzahn went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Caris Way went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Taylor Watts also drove in a run, and the Spartans worked six walks in the loss.

ELCO improved to 10-6 with the win and will host Garden Spot on Monday. The Raiders currently sit in the final District 3 Class 4A playoff spot as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.
