The Lancaster-Lebanon League Swim Championships concluded last night at Franklin & Marshall College, and Lebanon County athletes finished the meet with a strong showing on the podium. Cedar Crest competed as a full team, while Annville-Cleona, Northern Lebanon, and Lebanon High School had swimmers competing individually.
With medals awarded to the top 8 finishers in each event, Lebanon County swimmers combined for 31 total medals (including relays, where each swimmer earns a medal). Cedar Crest led the way with 27 medals, followed by Lebanon with 2, while Annville-Cleona and Northern Lebanon each earned 1.
The highest finish of the meet for Lebanon County came from Jomar Hidalgo, who captured a championship in the boys 200-yard individual medley (1:53.56) and added a 2nd-place finish in the boys 100-yard backstroke (51.13) to complete a two-medal night. On the girls side, Brooke Shuman posted the county’s top individual placement, taking 3rd in the 100-yard freestyle (54.83) and later returning for a 4th-place medal in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.21).
Cedar Crest’s depth showed up especially in the relays, where the Falcons put swimmers on the medal stand in five events across the boys and girls competitions. The boys were 3rd in the 400 freestyle relay (3:22.95) with Xen Donten, Chase Demchak, Henry Wengert, and Luca Annibali, and also placed 4th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.84) with the same quartet. The girls medaled in the 200 medley relay (8th, 2:10.51), the 200 freestyle relay (4th, 1:43.81), and the 400 freestyle relay (5th, 3:50.32), with those lineups built around the same core that included Shuman and strong contributions from teammates throughout the meet.
Lebanon County also had several more individual medalists crack the top 8, including Danny Trate (4th, boys 50 freestyle, 22.09), Collin Cheslock (5th, boys 100 breaststroke, 1:01.04), Demchak (8th, boys 50 freestyle, 23.52), and Chloe Helwig (8th, girls 500 freestyle, 5:34.97), with multiple Cedar Crest swimmers adding additional top-8 finishes across the sprint and distance events.
