ELCO 62, Northern Lebanon 50

On Saturday afternoon, the ELCO Raiders traveled to Fredericksburg for a non-league rivalry tussle with the Northern Lebanon Vikings.

ELCO jumped out to an early lead behind the hot hand of Austin Smith, who scored 9 points in the opening quarter as the Raiders took a 16-11 advantage after one. A three-pointer from Andrew Via, playing in his final home game, helped keep Northern Lebanon within striking distance — and the Vikings made their move in the second.

Northern Lebanon struck back in the 2nd quarter, outpacing ELCO 14-7 as sophomore Carter Moyer knocked down two threes as part of a 10-point frame. The surge gave the Vikings a 25-23 lead at the break.

In the 3rd, ELCO began to separate. Kaden Tillison and Josiah Hayes scored 5 points apiece to take some of the load off Smith, who added 4 more in the quarter. With Paul Williams also chipping in 4, the Raiders posted a 20-point quarter to flip the game and grab a 43-37 lead entering the fourth.

ELCO kept the pressure on down the stretch, hitting clutch free throws late as Tillison scored 7 in the final frame and Hayes added 6. Northern Lebanon pushed back behind Via, who scored 8 in the fourth, but ELCO held on to close out the win.

Smith finished with 22 points to lead ELCO. Hayes added 15, and Tillison chipped in 14 — with each of the three hitting a three-pointer.

For Northern Lebanon, Via totaled 19 points, including two triples and a 3-for-3 performance at the foul line. Moyer finished with 17 points, boosted by three three-pointers, and went 2-for-2 from the stripe.

ELCO (11-8) remains in the postseason picture with three games remaining, starting with a home game against Lancaster Catholic on Monday. Northern Lebanon (9-12) will close its season Monday night on the road at Gettysburg.

New Covenant 48, Harrisburg Christian 44

New Covenant looked to finish off the week with a victory after a tough home loss Tuesday evening against West Shore Christian. To meet that objective, the Flames needed to do it on the road against Harrisburg Christian — a team they narrowly defeated back in mid-December.

In the 1st quarter, the Flames fell behind 12-10, despite 5 points from Talan VanderPloog and a three-pointer from freshman Braden Demler.

After another tightly contested quarter, New Covenant was able to tie the game 23-23 going into halftime. In the 2nd quarter, the Flames relied on six different players finding the basket to keep things even.

The 3rd quarter was much of the same, as Harrisburg Christian outpaced New Covenant by a slim 11-10 margin to take a one-point lead heading into the final quarter. VanderPloog tallied 6 points in the frame.

In the 4th, New Covenant worked to break away, aided by an outstanding effort at the free-throw line. The Flames went 9-for-12 at the stripe as a team in the final quarter, with Ben Rhine leading the way with 6 points and Grayden Summersadding 5 — including a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the line. Those late trips to the stripe helped New Covenant pull off another come-from-behind win.

For the game, VanderPloog scored 16 points to lead the way, including a three-pointer while going 3-for-4 at the foul line. Rhine joined him in double figures with 11 points, including a 5-for-7 showing from the stripe.

New Covenant (14-5) will look to keep things going when they host Fairfield on Monday evening.
