Athlete of the Week

Athlete of the Week Voting: October 28 – November 3

Presented in coordination with Froggy Valley 100.1/WiLBuR 99.7 & Lebanon Federal Credit Union, help us decide which male and female athlete should be honored for their outstanding efforts during last week’s local high school sports action.  While you may have a favorite school or athlete already, we still encourage you to read through the lists below and then click on the link to vote.

The winners will be announced at the end of the week. Linked below are the articles about our most recent winners of the award.

Voting will remain open until Wednesday at 10 pm.

One vote per email address, per day will be allowed.

While athletes can be nominated multiple weeks, the winners will be removed and updates will be provided as the season progresses.

While this may be a vote and emotions can run high, this is intended to bring attention to some of the best performances from our local student-athletes.

Nominations, which are made working with the schools, are listed below in alphabetical order.

Please read about each nominee, celebrate their accomplishment, and then go vote who you feel is most deserving of this week’s honor.

With limited action this past week, the female & male nominees have been combined.

Nominees

Landon Hostetter (Annville-Cleona / Sr.) – Cross Country: The senior finished 21st at the PIAA State Championship (AA). Running a time of 16:44, Hostetter improved his time by thirteen seconds since last year on his way to aiding the Dutchmen to a 3rd place finish. This was the third time that Hostetter medaled at the State Championship Meet.

Maddie Stahl (Palmyra / Fr.) – Field Hockey: The freshman scored the lone goal in Palmyra’s 1-0 win over Hershey to claim 3rd place in District 3 (AA). It was Stahl’s third goal in four District Playoff games.

Jack Waranavage (Cedar Crest / Sr.) – Football: The senior wide receiver had 6 receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons’ decisive 49-29 victory over Hempfield in the first round of the District 3 Playoffs. Waranavage also perfectly executed a “Hitch & Pitch” play in which he caught the pass from Jackson Custer and then lateralled it to Cameron Tirado, who broke free for a long touchdown.

Paul Williams (ELCO / Jr.) – Football: In the ELCO’s convincing 31-6 victory over Octorara in the District 3 Playoffs, the junior defensive end played a significant role in shifting the momentum in favor of the Raiders when he recovered a fumble and rumbled 8 yards to the end zone. Williams also came up with a critical sack late in the game to stifle a late comeback attempt by Octorara. He finished the game with 5 tackles.

Noteworthy Performances from previous winners

Mitchell Frederick loomed large in ELCO’s District 3 Playoff win. The senior running back carried the ball 14 times for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns. On defense, he totaled 10 tackles, including 5 solo.

Isaiah Zimmerman was outstanding in Cedar Crest’s District 3 Playoff win over Hempfield. The sophomore running back finished the game with 25 carries that he took for 182 yards and an unreal 5 touchdowns. The performance helped the Falcons win their first playoff game in 27 years.
