Lebanon Set to Approve New Athletic Director
On Monday night, the Lebanon School Board of Directors is expected to approve Anthony Sinico as their new Athletic Director to replace Carlos Sanchez. If approved, Sinico will come into the job with a wealth of experience, having spent the last ten years teaching and coaching at Cedar Crest High School.
The social studies teacher has been a coach during that time, leading the boys’ lacrosse team from 2014-2017 before taking over the girls’ lacrosse program from 2017-2023. During this time, Sinico established the Falcon Girls Youth Lacrosse Club, which now involves over 120 girls, grades 2-12.
Sinico is a 2013 graduate of Lebanon Valley College and has continued to further his education over the past decade. In 2018, Sinico obtained a master’s degree in School Leadership from Temple University and a second master’s from West Virginia University in 2021, specializing in Sports Administration. He is currently a doctoral student at Temple.
Beyond his coaching and educational experience, Sinico has recently served as an assistant to Cedar Crest Athletic Director Rick Dissinger.
Sinico describes his overall journey as having “a deep commitment to education, leadership, and advocating for student-athletes and the entire student population.”
After two years, Sanchez is moving on from the AD role to take over as principal of the newly formed Intermediate School, which will be housed at the current Lebanon Middle School site. (published 1/14, 8 am)
Blackburn Reaches Milestone
On Wednesday night, Hershey Boys Basketball defeated Mifflin County. The result marked a significant milestone in Paul Blackburn‘s head coaching career – his 400th career victory. Blackburn had previously coached the Lebanon team for nine seasons from 1998 to 2007, and during that time, he won 132 games as the head coach. The highlight of his tenure was winning the Lancaster Lebanon League Championship in 2005. Congratulations to Blackburn on his impressive achievement of winning 400 games as a head coach! McInerney Named Top Academic All-American
On Wednesday, it was announced that Lebanon Valley College’s Taylor McInerney was named the 2023 Academic All-American of the Year for D3 Women’s Volleyball by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). The selection comes after the Palmyra alum achieved a 4.0 GPA in her major of Early Childhood Education while managing her athletic responsibilities on her way to being named the MAC Freedom Conference Player of the Year. Registering 591 kills during her senior campaign, McInerney also picked up an Honorable Mention on the 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Team.
McInerney joins J.D. Byers (’05) as the only other Dutchman named “Academic All-American of the Year” and is the first LVC student to make the Academic All-American Team since 2018. (published 1/12, 5 am)
Krall Recognized During Halftime Ceremony
At halftime of Tuesday’s ELCO Boys Basketball game, the legendary Lyle Krall was honored with a citation from State Senator Gebhard’s office. The moment was meant to celebrate the impact Coach Krall, now ninety-one years old, has had on local athletics throughout his life. His grandson, Travis Thome, joined him on the court during the ceremony. Having learned many lessons from his grandfather, Thome is entering his second season leading the Northern Lebanon Vikings.
