Ferrer Leads Cedars at E-Town’s Blue Jay Invitational
Saturday at Elizabethtown College, Lebanon competed in The Miller Sports Construction Blue Jay HS Invitational as one of the 16 teams represented, and the Cedars turned in a strong showing against a quality field that included Manheim Township, Hershey, and Milton Hershey among the top teams.
With awards going to the top 8 finishers in each event, Lebanon produced a solid collection of standout performances, beginning with those who landed near the top of the podium. Senior Eddie Ferrer led the way with a championship effort in the boys long jump, where he soared 20’3″, then followed it up with a silver-medal finish in the boys triple jump at 42’5″. Ferrer also added another award in the boys high jump by clearing 5’8″ to place 5th, making him the clear headliner of Lebanon’s day.
Lebanon also found success in the distance events. Senior Thadeous Gilbert ran 1:59.95 to finish 4th in the boys 800m, marking the second time this week he dipped under 2:00. Junior Samuel Hershey added an 8th-place finish in the boys 1600m with a time of 4:42.15.
The Cedars were competitive in the relays as well. Lebanon’s boys 4×100 team of Nahzyl Thomas, Davonte Montanez, Juan Rivera, and Christopher Robles placed 4th in 45.07, while the boys 4×400 quartet of Gilbert, Hershey, Jaeqwan Johnson, and Darryl Watson Rivera followed with a 5th-place effort in 3:38.34.
Elsewhere on the boys side, senior Camron Buchmoyer picked up another award by finishing 7th in the javelin with a throw of 136’9″. Sophomore Yassine Hakam added a pair of award-winning efforts of his own, taking 6th in the long jump at 19’4″ and 8th in the triple jump at 39’11.75″.
On the girls side, sophomore Cayleigh Shaak paced Lebanon with a strong all-around day. She finished 4th in the long jump with a mark of 15’7.5″, added a 7th-place finish in the triple jump at 32’5.5″, and also scored in the 100m with a 7th-place run of 13.18. Shaak’s trio of top-7 finishes gave the Cedars a big lift on the girls side.
All told, it was a productive afternoon for Lebanon, which showed it could compete well in a deep invitational setting while piling up award-winning performances across the jumps, distance races, and relays. The Cedars will be back in action on Monday with a dual meet at Penn Manor.
