Kurtz, Adewale Lead ELCO at Pine Grove Invitational
Friday night in Elverson, Cedar Crest turned in one of its most impressive invitational showings of the spring at the Twin Valley Raider Invitational, competing against a large field and leaving with 4 event titles and 18 medals in a meet where the top 5 finishers in each event reached the podium. Three of those victories also produced new meet records, giving the Falcons a huge night against strong competition.
The record-setting performances came from Cameron Tirado, Cedar Crest’s boys 4×100 relay, and the Falcons’ novice boys 4×200 relay. Tirado cleared 6’6″ to win the boys high jump, while the foursome of Isaiah Zimmerman, Nolan Lingle, Tirado, and Landen Weaber raced to victory in the boys 4×100 in 42.46. Earlier in the evening, Cedar Crest’s novice 4×200 relay of Braylon Beard, Ben Garland, CJ Hallman, and Steven Reyes also broke the meet record on the way to a win in 1:36.59.
The Falcons added another title in the field, where Max Fleischer won the boys triple jump with a leap of 42’4.75″. Fleischer also turned in one of Cedar Crest’s strongest double-medal performances by placing 2nd in the boys javelin at 165’7″, helping the Falcons pile up points in multiple event groups.
Cedar Crest’s distance runners were just as impressive. In the boys 800m, Hayden Snavely ran 2:00.06 for silver and Shawn Alexander followed in 4th at 2:01.64, giving the Falcons 2 medals in one of the night’s deepest races. In the boys 1600m, Zachary Margut earned another runner-up finish in 4:27.71, while James Engle added 7th. Cedar Crest’s strength over the longer races also showed in the boys 3200m, where Wyatt Wolfe placed 4th in 9:57.16 and Henry Wengert finished 6th in 10:02.42.
Elsewhere on the boys side, Bryce Wampler earned a 5th-place medal in the 400m with a 50.52, Justin Moreno placed 5th in the boys 110m hurdles in 15.39, and Nolan Lingle added a 5th-place finish in the long jump at 20’6.75″. Cedar Crest’s boys 4×800 relay also turned in a solid effort, placing 6th in 8:37.55.
The Falcons were strong on the girls side as well. Makenzie Wamsher led that group with a silver-medal finish in the girls 1600m, clocking 4:58.81. Cedar Crest’s girls 4×800 relay of Carly Atkins, Emma Kline, Caroline Maisto, and Cara Figueroa followed with a bronze-medal effort in 10:44.66.
In the throws, the Falcons showed major depth. Nachali Manon Aquino placed 2nd in the girls discus with a throw of 122’1″, while Mikayla Fripps took 3rd at 111’3″. Fripps also added a 5th-place medal in the girls shot put at 33’9″, making her one of Cedar Crest’s top all-around contributors on the evening.
Cedar Crest also picked up more girls medals in the vault and jumps. Jesslyn Risser cleared 9’6″ to place 4th in the girls pole vault, while Briannah Rose finished 10th in the girls 200m with a 27.19. The Falcons also got additional distance efforts from Clara Schneider, who was 22nd in the girls 1600m, Sami Rundle, who placed 21st in the girls novice 1600m, and Vivian Doster, who finished 17th in the girls 3200m.
All told, Cedar Crest left Twin Valley with 4 event titles, 3 meet records, and 18 medals, showing off exactly the kind of depth and star power that can swing a major invitational. Keep in mind that Kaddel Howard, Eliana Schneider, and Travis Furmanski did not compete. Also, some of Cedar Crest’s other top athletes were limited in the number of events in which they completed.
The Falcons will be back in action on Monday with a high-stakes home meet against McCaskey.
