Northern Lebanon Announces NBA Experience

In exciting high school hoops news, the Northern Lebanon Girls & Boys Basketball Teams are scheduled to compete at the Wells Fargo Center on January 10th. The Friday afternoon games will be played against Williams Valley, ahead of the Sixers taking the court against the New Orleans Pelicans that evening. The opportunity is part of the Sixers’ Court of Dreams experience that welcomes high school athletes to play on the same NBA hardwood that is usually reserved just for the likes of Joel Hans Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George.

ELCO’s athletes had the same chance to compete at the Wells Fargo Center when they participated in the same program that led to a game against Wyomissing last December.

At Thirteen, Jonestown Teen Signs with LVC Ice Hockey

On Thursday afternoon, Jonestown’s Jameson “Jamie” Reynolds signed with the Lebanon Valley Men’s Ice Hockey Team during a ceremony at Hersheypark Arena. What makes this signing special is that Reynolds is 13 years old and is currently a 7th grader at Northern Lebanon Middle School.

At eight years old, Reynolds was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, but beginning last year began attending team practices as part of Team IMPACT.

According to LVC’s press release:

“Due to Jamie’s condition, playing sports and being part of a sports team was something that he could never do. Thankfully, being involved with Team IMPACT and the LVC ice hockey team, Jamie can now be part of a sports team that he may never have gotten the chance to do otherwise. Team IMPACT is a unique multiyear program that matches children facing serious illness and disability with college athletic teams across the country. The program aims to guide children and teams alike in a mutually beneficial relationship of belonging, empowerment, and resilience. The program creates a long-term, life-changing experience for everyone involved.”

About this opportunity, LVC Head Coach Don Parsons said, “Participating in a program like Team IMPACT greatly benefits the child and equally benefits our players as individuals. They develop skills that will help them throughout life, and Jamie has been a tremendous inspiration.”

Now that he is signed as a member of the team, Reynolds will participate in a variety of team activities over the course of the next two seasons.

Local Runners Garner Collegiate Honors

Two LebCo alumni won honors from their respective conferences after running exceptionally well last week in their Cross Country races.

Cedar Crest’s Ryan Wolfe, a junior at Shippensburg, was named the PSAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. The award followed his 1st place finish at the Kutztown DII/DIII Challenge to lead Ship’s sweep of the top six places in the race. Wolfe’s time for the 8,000 meters was 26:57.32. Lebanon’s Ramon Urena Batista, now a freshman at Shippensburg, finished 11th in the race with a time of 27:08.33.

Not to be outdone, ELCO’s Mitchell Gray won the United East Cross Country Preview, traversing the 8k course in 28:30.3, nearly a full minute ahead of the next nearest runner. Following his victory, the Lancaster Bible College senior was named the United East Male Cross Country Runner of the Week for the 2nd straight week. This is the 9th time he has won the award overall.
