Cedar Crest Football Season Outlook

The 2023 Falcons exceeded expectations, finishing with an eight-win regular season and a District 3 Playoff appearance. The effort was highlighted by a very strong senior class, which featured five players who committed to compete at the college level. Following the successful campaign, Coach Rob Wildasin made the tough decision to follow his seniors, resigning after ten years at the helm and opening the door for new leadership at Falcon Football.

Long-time assistant Nicholas Lambros heeded the call and stepped into the role as the new head coach. Lambros, a ’98 grad of Cedar Crest who spent seven years as Wildasin’s defensive coordinator, began his playing career for the Blue and Grey under Coach Norbie Danz and his coaching career under Coach Mike Robinson after his playing career at Bloomsburg finished.

Lambros is now ready for the challenge of rebuilding following the loss of last year’s seniors. However, he has a great crew of senior leaders in their own right. The group is headlined by Jackson Custer, the Cedar Crest quarterback who took over halfway through his sophomore season. A ground-heavy offensive effort last season, with Fernando Marquez and Alex Abreu splitting carries, Custer also had several options to which he could throw the ball with Owen Chernich, Aiden Schomp, and Leo Tirado. The next wave of playmakers will now have to step up, with Jack Waranavage and Malachi Victor no doubt ready to lead the way. Aiding the Falcons on both sides of the ball will be their strong line, which includes four seniors with extensive varsity experience: Carter Eisenhauer, Nate Harbaugh, Alex Kissinger, and Tristan Long. Look for sophomore Landyn Kline to continue his development at the linebacker positon and fellow sophomore Eli Beard to take on more of a role in the running game.

Admittedly, there are holes to fill for Coach Lambros’s team as they battle through a tough Section 1 schedule. That said, this group worked through the off-season to prepare for the challenge as they bought into a new culture of weightlifting that continued to take hold in South Lebanon under the supervision of Travis Dresch, the Cedar Crest Strength & Conditioning Coach. The work should pay dividends as the Falcons tackle the brutal ten week gauntlet that awaits them.

While the bar was raised by the Class of 2023, the next generation of Falcons have seemingly done all they can to keep the wins coming. Our first glimpse of their progress will come this Friday night when the Cedar Crest Falcons host the Falcons of Lower Dauphin.
