Track & Field: LebCo Athletes Dominate Bruce Dallas Invite Winning 22 Medals, 9 Gold

On Saturday, forty-two teams descended upon Cumberland Valley for the Bruce Dallas Track and Field Invitational. Among the squads competing at this early season meet were three teams from LebCo: Cedar Crest, ELCO, and Palmyra.

In the individual events, medals were awarded to the top six finishers. In relays, medals were given to the top three to cross the finish line.

When all of the events were complete, LebCo athletes combined for twenty-two medals. This included individual wins in NINE events, an impressive showing by our local schools.

On the Girls’ side, LebCo athletes garnered eleven medals. Cedar Crest’s Kaddel Howard continued her string of significant wins, taking first place in the 200m and the 400m. The sophomore’s winning time of 56.03 in the 400m set a new meet record, breaking her own record, which she set in 2023. Eliana Schnieder, another Cedar Crest sophomore, won the Javelin with an incredible heave of 147’5″. She also took silver in the High Jump (5’3″). ELCO’s Makenna Haas (Jr.) won the Long Jump with a leap of 16’8.75″ and also took 5th in the Triple Jump.

The LebCO Boys also combined for eleven medals. Palmyra star hurdler Tyler Burgess (Jr.) won both the 110m High Hurdles (14.4) and the 300m IM Hurdles (39.7). His brother, Jacob Burgess (Jr.), also struck gold with a win in the Long Jump with a top leap of 21’6.75″ and added a 4th place medal in the 200m (23.73). Fellow Cougar Cornelius Cummings (So.) won the 1600m with a time of 4:31.2. ELCO’s Camden Marquette (Sr.) ran a 2:00.2 to earn the top spot on the podium.

With one of the first major invitational meets of the season now in the books, our local talent is already looking like they may be ready for Championship Season. There is still a lot of season left to go, which will add to the intrigue.
