Zac Frentz

During the week of April 8th, Annville-Cleona Baseball earned wins over Pequea Valley and Lancaster Mennonite to finish with a 2-1 record. In the three games, which included a tough loss to Northern Lebanon, Zac Frentz went 5-9 and reached base on half of his plate appearances. Against Pequea, the sophomore cranked two home runs on his way to driving in four runs. His performance in helping the Dutchmen continue their winning ways caught the attention of the LebCoSports.com voters, who chose Frentz as the LebCo Male Athlete of the Week.

When asked about his performance, Frentz told LebCoSports.com, “The energy this team brought this week was contagious. Especially in our win over Pequea Valley, we came out the gates with an unmatched persona. Our first two base runners of the game got on safely, leading me to be up to bat in the 3-hole with no outs, just the pitcher and me. I had a 1-1 count, and my coach gave me the green light. I swung hard and hit my first home run, and later that game, I followed it up with another home run, this time to left field. My mentality this whole week was to just try to find a barrel within each at bat, and that I did.”

Frentz went on to call the week of April 8th his “best week of baseball to date.”

Given his personal success, one would think that would remain the focus. However, the humble young star said that he “could not of had this electric week without the unprecedented support that my team brought; players and coaches.”
Currently, Annville-Cleona has a 7-5 record and seems to be in a good position to make a return trip to the District 3 Playoffs (3A). At the plate, Frentz is doing everything possible to make sure this occurs. Through 12 games, he is batting .500 with a .614 OBP. He has 10 RBIs, which have come off 16 hits, including 5 doubles and 3 home runs. Frentz has also added 14 stolen bases in 14 attempts.

While Frentz is excelling on the baseball diamond, it’s not the only sport where he does well. Playing for the Annville-Cleona Ice Hockey Club, Frentz finished the winter with 2 goals and 7 assists. The Dutchmen finished the season with a 10-4-0-2 record and narrowly missed the playoffs.

Frentz’s personal goal this season in baseball is to finish with a batting average north of .400. However, he just wants to help his team win and give them a chance to play in the postseason. Following a previous loss to Northern Lebanon, Frentz showed his determination this past Friday as he went 2-3 with a double, RBI, and a walk as the Dutchmen battled before ultimately losing 5-3. It is going to be this type of play that will define him. Those paying attention should not be surprised if Annville once again upsets a team like Lancaster Catholic in Districts.

We wish Frentz and his teammates all the best as they set out to play their final eight games of the regular season and battle for an opportunity to play in the postseason.
