Viking Girls Basketball Season Outlook

Last season, Northern Lebanon finished the regular season with a 12-10 record on their way to earning a spot in the District 3 Playoffs. In the opening round of Districts, the Vikings challenged Trinity but eventually lost by 5 points. The shocking part about their success was that Coach Ken Battistelli started four freshmen and one sophomore. Olivia Shutter, the oldest of the Viking starters, led the team with 14.7 points per game. On her way to earning First Team LebCo All-County honors, Shutter also led the team in rebounds and hit 37 three-pointers. Kasey Weimer and Hayley Sheroky each contributed an average of 9 points per game and provided great on-court awareness in their first season at the varsity level. This group was joined in solid play by Saoirse Phillips and Mackenzie Miller, now only sophomores. There are also several other players on the roster who will be ready to contribute when called upon.  Besides the scoring, this squad prides itself on the defensive intensity they bring to the court.

With all that said, this year’s roster does not have any seniors, but it packs a powerful punch with an experienced lineup that has proven it is as talented as it is young. Having had a year to play together and an off-season to prepare for the ’23-’24 campaign, look for the Vikings to sail further into the postseason. After all, defense wins championships.
