Boys Basketball Outlook: Lebanon

     Lebanon Cedars 2022-2023 Boys Basketball

In the 2020-2021 season, the Lebanon Cedars won their first Lancaster-Lebanon League Championship since 2004.  Last season, they struggled with injuries, especially with team leader Luke Collins being sidelined after suffering a torn ACL in the off-season.  Even though it was not as successful as the previous year, they were the Section Two runner-up, made it to the League quarterfinals after beating Octorara in the first round, and qualified for the District 3 Playoffs.  It is safe to say that the team was rich with senior talent and leadership that has since graduated.  Along with their departure, Coach Tim Speraw moved on as well in order to spend more time with his young family after spending twelve years running Lebanon’s program.

This leaves Lebanon in a rebuilding phase under the guidance of rookie head coach, and former Lebanon standout, Kris Uffner.  While Uffner is new to the head coaching role, he has been very active coaching in the developmental youth program in Lebanon for several years.  Knowing his players will allow him to develop his culture for improvement that will be needed to bring the newer players up to speed, along with the veteran players that will be playing under a new system.  The team will rely heavily upon the on- and off-court leadership of senior forward Emanuel Mason and junior guard Jaidyn Mercado.  Lebanon is a proud basketball town, which should translate into continued success if all goes according to plan.
