Baseball: Rivera, Raiders Break It Open Late in Win over York Suburban

After dropping two straight, ELCO hit the road on Friday looking to close the week on a better note. Behind a huge day from Queston Rivera and a six-run 7th inning, the Raiders did just that, pulling away late for a 15-6 win over York Suburban.

York Suburban grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the 1st when Brown delivered a sacrifice fly and Muccino added an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.

ELCO answered in a big way in the top of the 4th. Rivera blasted a two-run homer to center, Tanner Hibshman brought home another run on a groundout, and an error helped the Raiders surge in front 5-2.

York Suburban battled back to tie it in the bottom of the 5th, using doubles from Bowman and Brown, along with an RBI single from Kochenour, to even things up at 5-5.

The Raiders went back on top for good in the 6th. Austin Smith lifted a sacrifice fly, Wyatt Parker singled home a run, and Rivera added another sacrifice fly as ELCO moved ahead 8-5.

ELCO then slammed the door with a huge 7th inning, scoring six more times. Smith singled in a run, Parker worked a bases-loaded walk, Tyce Boyer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Rivera delivered another RBI single, Grady Auker added a sacrifice fly, and Kylan Weiler chipped in an RBI single.

On the mound, Parker earned the win after working five innings. The right-hander allowed five hits and six runs, four earned, while striking out four and walking four. Braden Gettle finished things off over the final two innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out two.

ELCO finished with 12 hits and also created pressure all game with its patience and aggressiveness. Gettle had two hits and drew two walks, while Hibshman scored three times and stole three bases. The Raiders swiped eight total bases and also turned a double play.

For York Suburban, Brown drove in two runs, while Kochenour collected two hits. Royer added two stolen bases for the hosts.

ELCO, now 5-7, will look to make it two in a row when it travels to Cocalico on Monday.
