Cedar Crest Explodes for 20 Runs in Road Rout of Manheim Township
After defeating McCaskey on Monday, the Falcons hit the road again on Wednesday looking to make it two straight wins. Cedar Crest did just that in emphatic fashion, piling up 20 runs and 20 hits in a 20-4 victory over Manheim Township in a game that was decided quickly.
The Falcons wasted no time setting the tone in the top of the 1st. Elli Malinoski singled in a run, Ava Rosario followed with a two-run single, and Kate Poorman added a two-run double as Cedar Crest raced out to a 5-0 lead.
Manheim Township answered with a solo home run by Moore in the bottom of the 1st, but the Falcons kept pouring it on in the 2nd. Jackie Funderburk drove in a run with a groundout, Poorman singled home two more, Julia Cole doubled in two runs, and Ali Groff added an RBI single as Cedar Crest stretched the lead with a six-run frame.
Any remaining doubt disappeared in the 3rd, when the Falcons erupted for nine more runs on nine hits. Angie Orosco singled in two runs, Cole added another RBI single, Zidaya Brandon brought home a run with a single, Groff knocked in two more, Funderburk doubled in one, Malinoski doubled in one, and Mia Lutz capped the inning with an RBI double.
Addison Nolen handled the work in the circle for Cedar Crest, allowing six hits and four runs, two earned, over three innings while walking one. The Falcons backed her with plenty of offense, including a huge day from Groff, who went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Poorman, hitting out of the No. 7 spot, drove in four runs while going 2-for-2. Funderburk, Malinoski, Orosco, Lutz, and Cole all had multiple hits as part of Cedar Crest’s 20-hit outburst.
For Manheim Township, M. Castillo, Moore, A. Hunter, N. Brownell, Hughes, and #17 each had a hit. Castillo, Moore, Brownell, and #17 each drove in a run.
Cedar Crest (6-5) will be after their 3rd straight win when they travel to play Bishop McDevitt on Friday.
