Paul Short Invitational
Thursday at Lehigh University, the Paul Short Invitational—one of the largest and most prestigious cross country meets in the region—drew more than 2,000 runners from 119 schools. Among the standout performances from Lebanon County were Cedar Crest, Annville-Cleona, and Northern Lebanon.
Leading the local charge was Travis Furmanski of Cedar Crest, who stole the show in the Boys Gold Race, finishing 1st (14:53.8) and the fastest runner across all 1,095 male participants. Furmanski’s extraordinary feat, combined with his 4th place finish at the PIAA Foundation XC race, solidified his spot as one of Pennsylvania’s best runners this season.
The Cedar Crest boys team placed 4th in the highly competitive Gold Race, fueled by Furmanski, with key contributions from Wyatt Wolfe (49th, 16:27.6), Anthony Figueroa (55th, 16:35.0), Zach Margut (87th, 16:52.5), Hayden Snavely(88th, 16:52.7), and James Engle (100th, 17:01.7). The top team on the day were the powerhouse Knights of North Penn.
Annville-Cleona also competed in the Boys Gold Race, led by Oliver Funck (35th, 16:12.2) and David Moran (46th, 16:25.2), on their way to an 18th place finish out of 34 teams. Northern Lebanon ran in the Brown Division, placing 6th among 31 teams, with top runners Luke Hentz (29th, 16:39.2), Thaddeus Raub (41st, 17:00.2), and Frederick Anthony(45th, 17:02.9).
On the girls’ side, Cedar Crest was led by sisters Makenzie Wamsher (16th, 18:19.4), the fastest Lebanon County participant, and Hayden Wamsher (47th, 19:20.9), helping the Falcons to an 18th place finish out of 34 teams in the Gold Division.
In the Brown Division, Annville-Cleona’s girls placed 5th out of 40 teams, bolstered by a medal-winning Mackenzie Stellmach (11th, 19:04.2), with Lucy Stellmach (42nd, 20:10.0) and Leah Tshudy (44th, 20:12.1) providing depth for the Dutchmen. Northern Lebanon’s girls finished 37th, led by Zoey Bouchard (317th, 21:33.3), with Chloe Seyfert(590th, 23:23.4) and Alexis Schreckengost (628th, 23:43.0) rounding out the top three.
The weekend continues with the College Race on Friday, where the teams from Lebanon Valley College and several other Lebanon County alumni will tackle the course at Lehigh. We wish them the best of luck!
