Northern Lebanon 4, Elizabethtown 3 (LL Quarterfinal)

After enjoying their prom last night, the Northern Lebanon Lady Vikings, the Section 4 Champions, found themselves in a tight contest with the Elizabethtown Bears, the Section 2 runner-up. Abby Palkovic led the Viking offense with three hits and three RBI. Her success at the dish included two doubles that knocked in runs, including a two-run job in the 5th inning to tie the game. Lynsie Mauser threw seven innings, allowing three runs, none of which were earned, while striking out eleven.

The game headed to the 7th, with the score tied at three. Addison Hollenbach drew a lead-off walk and was sacrificed to second by Olivia Shutter. The Bears opted to intentionally walk Brooke Beamesderfer. The strategy backfired three pitches later as Palkovic singled to load the bases. Addison Kubica then ripped a line drive single to center to score Hollenbach. The win Northern Lebanon’s ticket to the Lancaster Lebanon League Semifinals, where they face Warwick, the Section 1 Co-Champion. That game will take place at Millersville University on Monday at 7 pm.

Annville-Cleona 3, Solanco 0 (LL Quarterfinal)

Annville was supposed to play their Lancaster Lebanon League Quarterfinal match-up against Section 2 Championship on Friday, but Mother Nature had other plans. The schedule change didn’t matter as Meda Pulaski was on the mound and was absolutely lights out. She held the Mules hitters to three hits and struck out seven over a seven-inning game. Solanco countered with a strong pitching performance of its own but could not overcome solid team play by the Dutchmen. Danica Setlock had as many hits as the entire opposition, three, with Pulaski, Faith Wagner, and Temperence Brubaker each adding a single. To put in perspective how the game progressed, Wagner’s RBI single in the 2nd was all Pulaski would need, as Solanco never had more than one runner on base per inning. With the victory, the Dutchmen earned their spot in the Lancaster Lebanon League Semifinals where they will play Donegal, the Section 3 Champion. The game is set to take place at 4 pm on Monday at Millersville University.

It is worth noting that while Donegal is a perennial powerhouse, Annville’s solid play, coupled with Northern Lebanon’s win, proved that Section 4 teams offer a legitimate chance to change the landscape of softball in the Lancaster Lebanon League.

Annville-Cleona 17, CD East 0 [F/3]

Wednesday, May 8

ELCO 9, Tulpehocken 3

ELCO traveled to Tulpehocken on Wednesday to play their final game of the regular season as they await the start of the District 3 Playoffs. After a run in the 1st inning, the Raiders added four in the 2nd. In the 3rd, Tulpehocken cut into ELCO’s lead to make it 5-3. ELCO then added four more runs before the end of the game to earn their 15th win of the season.

Gabby Smith fueled ELCO as she went 3-4, scoring three times and driving in three runs. Kenzie Deeks doubled and had three RBI. Grace Phillips had a double and triple on her way to two RBI. Morgan Wilson drove in a run to add to the ELCO scoring.

Abby Hassler pitched four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out nine. Gabby Smith pitched the final three scoreless innings and struck out six.

ELCO (15-5) have had their most wins in a season since 1997. They will look to add to that total when they begin Districts in two weeks.

Lebanon 25, Milton Hershey 5 [F/5]

Lebanon entered their game against Milton Hershey seeking their second win of the season. As mentioned in a previous post, the Cedars have been showing that their bats have been coming around, far outpacing the offense of past years. This game showed how much they have developed in a year after defeating the Spartans 14-13 in 2023.

While much of this game relied on timely hitting, the Cedars also showed extraordinary plate discipline in drawing twenty-two walks. Senior Ana Weaber led the way, going 3-3 with a double and four RBI. Fellow senior Iris Krouse also had a three-hit day that led to three RBIs. Seira Wolfe also accounted for driving three runs across home plate. Other Cedars collecting RBI: Katrina Leary (2), Sereniti Zidik (2), Kenidee Gilbert (2), Kambria Harbaugh (2), Jenna Seyfert (2), Alexis Messner (1).

Zidik pitched all five innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out seven.

Lebanon finishes the season with a 2-18 record. Their 94 runs scored during the season was 40 more than they scored last season.

Monday, May 6

ELCO 13, Octorara 3 [F/5]

Held scoreless in the first two innings, the Raiders erupted for eight runs in the 3rd inning on their way to a ten-run rule victory in five. Makayla Noll went 2-3 and drove in three runs. Karly Tice was 2-2 with a walk on her way to knocking in two runs. Chloe Shirk and Avery Garrison both added two RBI. Gabby Smith pitched all five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) and striking out nine.

ELCO (14-5) will play the last game of the regular season on Wednesday when they make the trip to Tulpehocken.

Solanco 22, Lebanon 5 [F/4]

The Cedars scored three 1st inning runs but ultimately could not keep pace with the Mules. Seira Wolfe went 3-3, while Alexis Messner and Sereniti Zidik each added two hits. Jenna Seyfert added double. Messner knocked in two runs, while Wolfe, Zidik, and Seyfert each had one RBI.

Lebanon (1-18) will finish its season with a game Wednesday at Milton Hershey.

Northern Lebanon 7, Annville-Cleona 0

In the much-anticipated showdown between the two best teams in Section 4, Northern Lebanon visited Annville. Lynsie Mauser took the hill for the Vikings and delivered a spectacular performance, limiting the Dutchmen to just two hits while striking out eleven. The junior supported her own cause with a solo home run. Brooke Beamesderfer, Abby Palkovic, and Addison Kubica each drove home a run. Addison Hollenbach was 2-2 and scored twice. Annville’s Meda Pulaski claimed thirteen strikeout victims.

With the win, Northern Lebanon was crowned as the Section 4 Champion. They finished the regular season with a 17-3 record.

Annville-Cleona (15-4) will finish the regular season with a home game against CD East on Thursday.
