LebCo College Baseball Prospect Tracker: February 7, 2024

Thanks to the Millersville Marauders’ foray into the Houston Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park this past weekend, college baseball coverage resumes this week. And while MU was the first team out of the gate for local guys that we track, many other programs reported on social media that they were able to “get outside” due to the slightly warmer weather. Several more programs fire up games this coming weekend, and we have the details for you!

LEADING OFF

Amani Jones, Millersville University of PA (Cedar Crest ’20) Season Stats  Upcoming Schedule

Amani Jones wasted no time establishing himself as the starting shortstop for the #7 ranked Marauders as they opened up in Houston. Jones led off all weekend and played every inning for Jon Shehan’s squad. Despite a couple of strikeouts and starting out 0 for 3, Jones was in the middle of the fireworks in a 15-13 slugfest over #5 University of Central Missouri. Jones singled and scored in the 6^th, knocked in a run in the 7^th and drew a walk in the 8^th. Millersville put down the Mules with a dramatic two run pinch hit home run in the ninth (Box Score and Story). Millersville pitching was tagged for thirteen more runs Saturday (ten earned), as #3 Tampa smoked MU, 13-1 in seven (mercy rule) innings. Jones was 0-2 with a walk as Tampa pitching held Milllersville to two hits (Box Score and Story). Millersville closed out the weekend with a win on Sunday, knocking off St. Cloud State, 7-2 (Box Score and Story). Jones pushed his average in the early going to .364, tallying a 2 for 4 day. Jones had a clean weekend in the field on six chances. The Marauders return to action on February 16, 2024.

Coach Jonas Fester sees Muhlenburg at home on February 27 a day before heading down 83 to visit #1 Johns Hopkins. The Dutchmen squad were shut out of pre-season national ranking votes and will likely – and rightfully – have a bit of a chip on their shoulder as they look to prove that they belong on the national stage following a deep run in playoffs in 2023.
