Palkovic, Roye Lead Vikings Past Raiders in Myerstown
The Section 3 champion Vikings traveled to Myerstown on Monday to take on ELCO under sunny skies, looking to keep their late-season surge rolling. Northern Lebanon entered the matchup having won 6 straight, while the Raiders were trying to strengthen their postseason position with the regular season winding down. By the end, the Vikings used another big offensive day and a clean defensive effort to earn a 12-5 win.
Northern Lebanon jumped in front right away in the 1st. After an ELCO error brought home the game’s first run, Sophia Roye followed with a 2-run single before another error helped bring in a 4th run, giving the Vikings a 4-0 lead.
ELCO answered in the bottom of the 1st when Chloe Shirk hit a solo home run to left field, cutting the deficit to 4-1 and giving the Raiders an early spark.
The Vikings stretched the lead again in the 2nd behind Stephanie Palkovic, who launched a 2-run home run to left field. Roye added an RBI double later in the inning, pushing Northern Lebanon’s advantage to 7-1.
ELCO continued to battle, scoring 3 runs in the 3rd to stay within reach, but Northern Lebanon put the game away with a 5-run 6th. Mykenah Johnson homered to left field for 2 runs, Palkovic doubled home 2 more, and another run scored when Addison Hollenbach reached on a fielder’s choice.
Palkovic led the Vikings’ offense, going 4-5 with a home run, a double, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Roye was strong in the circle and at the plate, finishing with 3 RBI while also throwing a complete game. She allowed 12 hits and 5 runs over 7.0 innings, striking out 13 without issuing a walk.
Northern Lebanon finished with 15 hits, with Shirey, Johnson, Keira Palski, and Roye each collecting multiple hits. The Vikings were also clean defensively, committing no errors behind Roye.
For ELCO, Justine Geyer led the way with a 3-4 day, while Abigail Ruth collected 2 hits. Kylie Cruz, Emma Fisher, Geyer, and Shirk each drove in a run for the Raiders.
Northern Lebanon improved to 16-3 and will host Annville-Cleona on Tuesday in its regular season finale before turning its attention to the Lancaster Lebanon League Playoffs, which begin Friday. ELCO fell to 11-8 and will finish its regular season Thursday with a road game at Tulpehocken.
